Hugs is the most high-needs of the foundlings that have been taken in by Clan Aquafilian. He is blind, and says only a few, reluctant one-syllable words, of which his favorite is "Hugs?" The Clan is not certain what he has been through, but both his chronic pain and his will to thrive are very clear.

Hugs spends his days squelching sand between his toes, stretching out in sunbeams, splashing endlessly in shallow water, and savoring whatever food is brought to him in minuscule, loving bites. He has the Veilspun longing to move but no way to co-ordinate with a swarm and often flops and wriggles around for the sheer joy of it, unaware and uncaring of how it looks. He is too fragile to play with the other hatchlings, except for Ruby, the Healer's child, whom he adores. So he stays clear of both the Gan and the Garden. It is the Fae of the Great Cavern who look after Hugs. They do so with the aid of Glitterati, the Golden Kitsune who came to the Clan guided by a vision on her quest to attain True Enrichment. She is so graceful, gracious, and keen herself that she finds it funny how hapless and helpless Hugs is. So for the time being, as she awaits the arrival of a master to teach her, Glitterati keeps an eye on Hugs from a small space away, sounds a warning when a larger dragon comes too near, and chuckles to herself at the sheer amount of pleasure the Clan takes in watching this weakest and most ridiculous of dragons find comfort and joy in the simplest of things. Sometimes she even indulges herself in letting Hugs bury himself in her fur for a cushioned ride over the shoreline rocks, or in flicking his face with her tails as he giggles and grasps at air trying to catch them. Once in awhile she even becomes so wrapped up in his foolishness that she forgets to inspect the guests as they come and go, and then she will run about to the Tea Shop and Tiki Bar and Guest House to see if she missed the arrival of anyone resplendent enough to be master teacher she is sure she was sent here to find...
