Known as the serious, consistent, solemn research methods professor, just about every student around Home knows Pius. Born a soldier but much happier as an academic, he's awkward and a bit grumpy but ultimately a well-meaning dragon who's well worth knowing. He's also the dragon who handles all the academic dishonesty issues, and though he's well-liked around Home, everyone knows not to get on his bad side. Lothur likes to say that cases of academic dishonesty after Pius' appointment dropped over 90%.

- Biography
Born to a Clan of soldiers-for-hire, Pius was groomed from birth to be a soldier. He was born in Water, but grew up in Plague, where his younger brother Araqiel was born. Well into his adult life, Pius was devoted only to making his family proud and being a good soldier...until Araqiel was old enough to join him on the battlefield but promptly ran away. Furious, Pius tracked Araqiel down, but quickly learned that life away from the battlefield and away from their strict birth family was not all he was told it would be, and he loved it. Already procrastinating returning to his old life, the brothers ran into Connor, one of Home's professors, who offered them a temporary (at the time) place to stay, and they never looked back. Pius took to academic life with a fervor, quickly distinguishing himself as a simply exemplary researcher, and was happy to accept a position on Home's faculty board. He and Connor enjoy a happy and loving marriage - something Pius never thought he would ever have - and he loves watching Araqiel grow up in a situation so far removed from his own hatchling days.

- Life at Home
Pius serves as the head of Home's research methods department, and is responsible for designing, teaching, and delegating these classes, which are required for all students. Research classes teach Home's residents from a young age how to conduct proper academic scholarship, including identifying bad and misleading scholarship and maintaining academic integrity. Though Pius is not a mean or unkind dragon by any means at all, he is strict, serious, and frankly the kind of decent dragon you just don't want to upset. The fact that cases of academic dishonesty are deferred to him means they very rarely happen. Protective of his home, Pius refuses to teach weaponry classes, but he can often be found helping out the school guard or running patrols. When he's not teaching, Pius loves sitting in on his husband Connor's lectures and spending time with him just working side-by-side in Home's library. On clear days, he can occasionally be found in Home's garden, though he doesn't have much of a green thumb.

- Relationships
A valued member of the faculty board thanks to his level-headed, practical personality, Pius can often be a bit awkward, but he's ridiculously competent and always reliable. He doesn't always do well in unfamiliar social situations and has a tendency to stick his foot in his mouth, but once he gets past the fear of embarrassing himself, he's not nearly as awkward as he thinks he is. He has a dry, gently self-deprecating sense of humor that's very endearing, and though he can be rude sometimes without really realizing it, he's always sure to apologize once he catches on. These traits, as well as his obvious knowledge and devotion to his craft, make him a hit with his students. He's also a ridiculously ride-or-die type of dragon, and he's been known to spend weeks tutoring a student for hours so they can pass a class that he's not even teaching. Pius is always private about his personal life, but his relationship with Connor is something of the fabled love story of the ages around Home. Connor, being a doctor, was one of the first dragons Pius ever met whose job was to heal rather than hurt, and they just fell head over heels for each other. Connor has always been good for keeping Pius' spirits up, and Pius' consistent, reliable personality always puts Connor at ease.

- Personality
A serious, reserved dragon, Pius has a reputation as a dragon who might not talk very much, but when he does have something to say, it's always well worth listening to. He tends to be pessimistic and downplay his own ability, which is almost a good thing. Considering his abilities as an academic, his fantastic skill with a sword, and his magical talent, which is nothing to sneeze at, it would have been very easy for him to get a big head, but Connor always wishes he would talk himself up just a little more. Pius doesn't have the best social skills around, but he really does try his best, and it's hard to mistake his earnest, genuine nature. He worries deeply about being a good dragon, and almost always acts like he's got something to atone for, which can definitely lend him a solemn air on his bad days. He cares deeply about his students, and though he wouldn't admit just how much he cares, he can often be seen encouraging them to eat more, offering his help around exam time, checking up on them when they're sick, and just showing his love in his own quiet, subtle way. He definitely never thought his life would have brought him here, but Pius has earned his name for himself as an excellent academic and a genuinely good dragon.
