Biography
Out of breath. Like TV-static the rain hissing, raging against the window. Begging to be let in as I was begging to be let out.
Where to hide?
The warm tones and wooden walls had given way to cold and hard concrete. There seemed to be no light sources, yet everything was illuminated. Like in a spotlight. Nowhere to hide. Where to hide?
Footsteps from the hallway. Click-clacking of heavy soled boots and the shuffle of tough fabrics.
I glance out of the window. So, so high. Too high. How did I come so far from underground to so high?
Muffled voices from the hallway.
Where to hide?
Where to hide?
What had I done?
Where could I hide?
Breathe in. Breathe out. You are stuck here now. Breathe in. Silently. They are coming closer. Don't you dare make a sound. Don't you dare to breathe.
Harsh hands. Pulling me and my feet that refused to cooperate along the winding halls.
I wanted to protest. To ask. What, why and how.
They just put their hand to my mouth.
I had expected death. They are not one of them.
The rain was louder again.
And on the run again. Out of breath again. On the run again. They seemed to be always behind us.
Losing sight of the where's, the what's happenings and the whys. Flurry, burning and crashing. A click.
Just close your eyes and give up. "Hey, keep moving!" Burning lungs. Hissing, clawing, cold air upon your skin. The storm raging now not locked behind flimsy glass. A freezing breath and return to clarity. We were crouching, pressed against the wall as the ones hunting us frantically ran past the window we were hiding beneath.
"Let's go."
Running, again. Moist metal beneath our soles. Those flimsy metal stairs that wound around the building did have more use than "just in case of a fire"...
