Dragonhome: Terraclae Population: 208 clans
This cave city was once a grand quarry, priding itself on its bounty of rich minerals and ores. As sites and digs were depleted, laborer clans took root in the empty spaces, carving out permanent homes to create an expansive self-sufficient community. The network of long-established clans that inhabit the city have significant clout in the region, holding sway over the construction of bridges, the operation of gem mines, and acting as the de facto voice of the earth flight.

It may seem an odd location for a library, but the dry air and consistent temperature of Terraclae's deepest tunnels make for ideal book storage. And with the Colonnades of Antiquity practically next door, the Goldmortar Library has no lack of new documents to study and preserve. Goldmortar contains hundreds of thousands of books, scrolls, documents, and letters, all meticulously maintained by an obsessive team of literature experts, translators, archaeologists, historians, and appraisers. The collection ranges from the popular to the bizarre; ancient texts of unknown origin, popular novels of the day, magical scrolls of living parchment. There are also artifacts, fragments, slabs, spellbooks, and other curiosities. Although the library team may not always see eye-to-eye, they value the safety of Goldmortar's collection above all things. |

Surrounding the library is a modest tunnel-town with the usual villagers and tradesmen. Often referred to as just "Goldmortar Town", these structures and tunnels are built in the remains of a long-abandoned gold mine. The 350 or so buildings are nestled within a hollow crater. There is partial exposure to the surface, with the brightest neighborhood referred to as the Daylight Zone. However, the majority of the town has no sunlight exposure and is lit with different elemental lamps. Though this may seem to be a bleak existence, many of Terraclae's Earth-flight natives actually prefer subterranean living, especially when considering the blazing and dry conditions of the surface level. The town includes a Miner's Quarter, buildings from the Smithing Guild, and a temple to the Earthshaker. There are also neighborhoods where non-Earth dragons tend to congregate; these are Shadowside, Arcanist's Alley, and the Pond. Goldmortar Town has an estimated population of around 2000 to 2500 individuals, depending on the season. |

| The snooty scholars and rough locals may clash on occasion, but all residents enjoy the proximity to Goldmortar Library. Raids on the library are rare. All have gotten used to the previous years of relative peace. Nowadays, the resident librarians' primary concern is deciphering and cataloging the generations of knowledge held within. New items arrive every day, from sources both trustworthy and questionable. Outside help is always appreciated! |
