“Did I get my sword stuck in a tree once?
Dunno what you’re talking about.”

If there’s one clan member most likely to get into trouble, it’s Bronte. Part-time adventurer, occasional mercenary for hire, full time disaster. The thing is that he can be serious when he’s working, but unfortunately he’s easily distracted. Which means that clients likely aren’t going to get the results they want. Or Bronte runs off with the money/treasure/priceless artefact. This has led to some angry clients trying to hire assassins to kill him - only to find Bronte’s vanished.

Bronte’s not stupid. He’s reckless and uncaring of his personal safety, yes, but he knows when to escape if things start looking dodgy for him. There are so many interesting things to discover out in the world though.

One big fault of his (in amongst all his little faults) is that he’s got no sense of direction. Maps just confuse him, as do written directions. Tell him to go right, and he’ll turn left - only to end up in a bigger muddle than when he started. He’ll usually try and follow someone in the hopes they’re going the same way he is. Which works - most of the time.

It was simply a stroke of luck that bought him to Felhallow. He wasn’t even meant to be in the Viridian Labyrinth to start with, but a series of blunders had led him there. And true to form, he got completely lost. He’d grown up in the Snowsquall Tundra, so he was used to trees. Not the sheer diversity of plants/other life here though. An infected facial wound only added to his troubles. He was almost at the point of simply giving up when he spotted the city walls.

He wasn’t sure about the city at first. He’d been in cities before, yes, but he’d never really felt at home there. Usually due to causing some commotion that meant he had to leave in a hurry. Something about Felhallow seemed different though. He wasn’t badgered with questions about who he was or where he’d been.

Bronte soon fell into a rhythm. He’d learnt how to socialise by watching and copying others he’d met on his travels, and honestly, he did enjoy meeting others. Still does, really. He’s not meant to be on his own. Though sometimes he needs a break, most of the time he can be found with his friends.

Friends. That’s something he thought he’d never have. Yes, he’d played with the other youngsters back home, though they never formed strong bonds with each other. Here, however, in the heart of the city, Bronte felt like he could actually be himself for once. That he didn’t have to hide his fears, his doubts, his…uncertainties.

And that was a strange feeling to get used to.

He doesn’t really care now though.

He’s happier (in a way) than he’s ever been. Messing around with his friends (when he’s not working) is so much fun. That’s not to say that he can’t be serious. His smile can switch to a glare at a moments notice. Sometimes he’ll misread the atmosphere, and say something inappropriate for the time. He’s usually suitably contrite afterwards.

Curious to a fault. And he never learns from his misadventures either. Sooner or later he’s poking his muzzle into a situation that doesn’t concern him again. It gives him a thrill. Sparks something reckless and carefree inside him. Exploring some ancient ruins? No problem! Sounds like fun. Getting trapped is not…quite so fun, but hey. It’s an adventure!! Never mind the fact that he might get injured - or possibly end up dead.

He’s used to getting injured. Perks of the job…or maybe not, as is usually the case. Some of them he can handle, some he can’t. Not on his own anyway. And Bronte’s never been very good at asking for help. Trusting others was never really something he’d considered before. And yet…now there’s someone he trusts with all his heart.

Fane.

It wasn’t love at first sight (he’s aware there’s no such thing), but something about her attracted him. The only problem was that she didn’t like him. A fact he was fully aware of. He tried though. Lying comes naturally to him, but he attempted to be as truthful as he possibly could around her. Honestly his attempts at flirting fell flat most of the time. He gave that up after a while, seeing that it wasn’t getting him anywhere fast.

Didn’t mean that he gave up all together, though. He could see that Fane was thawing towards him slightly. It was clear that she still didn’t trust him much, but her comments weren’t quite so hurtful and she wasn’t quite so quick to dismiss him as before. So he kept going. And gradually…his attempts worked. These days the two of them can be seen wandering the city, simply happy to be in each other’s company.

Trivia
  • Has a noticeable limp. Is pretty cagey about how he got injured in the first place - leading others to suspect he was probably doing something stupid at the time.
  • Doesn’t enjoy the humidity of the Viridian Labyrinth - can usually be found cooling off in the lake if it gets too much for him.
  • Left handed.
  • Has a really nice singing voice - however he’s weirdly self-conscious about preforming in public. Mythr’s tried to “encourage” him to sing a few times, but Bronte’s having none of it. There’s also the fact that most of his songs are…not particularly family friendly. Quite a few of them focus on things that he’s experienced in his travels or has seen happen to others.
  • Did indeed get his sword stuck in a tree once. Fane’s never let him forget it.
  • Allergic to cats.
  • Usually smiling - if he isn’t, then it either means something serious is going on or he’s terrified out of his wits.
  • Biromantic asexual (offspring are not canon, so just ignore the list).
  • He/him or they/them - doesn’t mind either way.
  • Hoards aviator coats. Look, he needs extras okay? Just in case the one he’s wearing gets torn to shreds or suddenly falls apart at the seams or…something. He needs them. All the colours.
  • Has no idea what he actually wants from life. He’s thought about it…but answers are not forthcoming.
  • Looks like he’s in control of his life - that couldn’t be further from the truth. He really isn’t.
  • His theme would probably be “Hoist up the Thing” by The Longest Johns.
  • The rabbit is called Toffee. Bronte tends to talk to her…but she’s not the world’s most stimulating conversationalist. Rabbits rarely are.
  • Likes cinnamon. Usually tries to sneak it into anything he cooks - with varying results.
  • Is a pretty good cook, despite trying to get cinnamon to go with everything.
  • Has been knocked out by a Velvet Fawn (three times)*

Relationships
68612658.png Fane ◾️ Partner
Though their relationship got off to a…rocky start, both of them adore the other now. Fane’s the voice of reason to Bronte’s recklessness - though sometimes even she can’t stop him from doing something stupid.

* = That’s my fault. I don’t venture into the Coli very often, and his stats are dreadful as a result. Luckily the Coli doesn’t play a huge part (if any) in my lore.
