Matlock has always had a passion for inventing, it runs in the family, after all. However, when he was younger and working on a machine that would temporarily change a dragon's color, the machine malfunctioned and he lost all of his color in his scales and feathers.

Since then, Matlock has gotten much better at making machines and can now reliably make almost anything with only minor mishaps, if any. Despite this, he stays away from color changing machines. He is currently working on a teleporter but is having some difficulty due to the nature of teleporting.

Matlock found Bloodrot right after they had moved to the Shifting Expanse. He was currently learning about and helping with robotics when he stumbled upon the tired Plague clan while looking for salvagable parts. He cheerfully brought the group to Goldensparc and introduced them to the dragons he was working with.

Together with the friends he'd made while working in Goldensparc and the surrounding area, Matlock helped to get the dragons of Bloodrot a place of their own in the Highland Scrub. He went back to work in the eastern part of the Shifting Expanse. During that time, he perfected his anti-shock suit and was able to go to more dangerous parts of the Shifting Expanse. He worked and studied on his own for a while in the Charged Barrens.

Eventually, he grew lonely and bored and wondered about how the dragons of Bloodrot were doing and if they still remembered him. He set off to the Highland Scrub where he found the Sparking Oasis and the dragons of Bloodrot. He decided to settle down and join the clan, making himself a small laboratory underground.

Matlock is based on a stuffed animal I own and have owned for most of my life. He's very dear to me and has become a sort of friend. He's been with me at my best and at my worst and has watched me grow up. And as I've grown, I've shared many memories with him. Even if he's just a grey and white puppy plushie, Matlock feels like a real person to me.

Because of my bond with Matlock, I've established a whole family history for him. He's the 26th Matlock and comes from a long line of inventors and soccer players. With a few exceptions, of course. For example, Matlock the 2nd played golf instead and Matlock the 5th is the only female Matlock. Matlock the 1st and 5th are also really bad at making inventions as they have a tendency to blow up or go haywire. Matlock the 26th, who we refer to only as 'Matlock', doesn't have that problems and his inventions are perfect!
