Biography
Adora
Stories would tell she was born of the light.
Adora knew otherwise.
Exalted from the plains of the Southern Icefield, sent into the ranks of the Lightweaver as alowly slave devoted servant.
Hard work earned her thecurse blessing of immortality in return for eternal faith to her deity.
Sent to guard the clans of the Sunbeam Ruins and Shining Coast, Adora watched from afar as countless dragons lived out their lives. Despite her godly powers, she did nothing to hide her jealousy, for who was there to see it anyway?
Alone and lost, she longed for the days when she laughed and played with the other dragons. But those companions were long gone, to her and to Sornieth itself, which has aged before her very eyes.
As years passed, she came across a clan like all the others. Yet something was different. It's brightness stirred warmth into Adora's heavy heart, but her spine would tingle at the darkness she sensed within the lair.
Though the Lightweaver had, all those years ago, warned her not to gaze too deep into a clan, not to stay for too long, not to let them know she was there watching, Adora decided to stay.
One dragon caught her attention. Standing out from the rest, with darkly shining scales and billowing wings, a guardian stood alone each day. Darkness shrouded her, a darkness visible only to the eye of the soul.
She didn't know what possessed her to do it, but Adora did it anyway.
Glided down from the clouds and landed behind the guardian, reached out and touched wings.
'What happened to you?' she spoke softly, the voice of a true angel, but the guardian flinched at the sound.
"Who are you?"
Adora paused before speaking, a flicker of doubt sparking in her chest.
'Adora. And you're... Luxa.'
Another flinch, and fear misted the guardian's eyes.
"Stay away from me!" She backed away, wings spread to fly, and suddenly Adora knew.
Summoning a gentle orb of light, she lifted it closer to Luxa, amd scraps of shadow fell from the guardian's wings, making visible a faint rune drawn into her dark scales.
'I... I can help. It was the shade, wasn't it? I've seen this before.'
"How do I know I can trust you?" Shock outlined Luxa's beautiful features.
Adora leaned in closer, laying her wing against Luxa's, and the lines of the rune began to glow gold. A shimmering orb ran along the rings and loops of the rune, strengthening the outline each time. Bright runes appeared on the guardian's side and cheek, and her eyes glistened in awe.
Stepping back, the two dragons looked each other in the eyes, and knew that they could trust each other as the last scraps of shade crawled away, defeated.
"T-thank you. I..."
'It was a very powerful rune your mother gave you. She's still out there, and she loves you very much. Only such a strong love could allow the rune to become so powerful. It will protect you now, and if you need my help again, it will call me to you. I... Wish you luck.'
"Thank you."
Luxa's words, whispered, drifted away on the breeze as Adora returned to the sky, to watch from afar yet again.
Something burned in her chest, tying her heart to the clan, telling her to stay just a little longer. For Luxa's rune had been made with love, and only such a strong love could strengthen it. Perhaps destiny was on the guardian's side, for in the days that Adora had watched from afar, love had crept into her heart like ivy on a crumbling garden wall.
