The truth is Vasilios doesn't care about others. He likes his wine and the wild nights he spends dancing and partying (the revelry always spilling out into the next morning when he is around), the sweet taste of grapes bursting in his mouth, and the ringing of music plucked along by talented hands. This he loves, but so seldom does he love the people who enjoy it with him. Vasilios cannot imagine such events without other beings to share it with, but these bonds are fleeting. Meaningless. What is the point of friendships at length? What is a person but a dance partner for one moment and a stranger the next? Interchangeable faces, interchangeable beings. Perhaps Vasilios is a star, alone in the cold of space. He burns brightly, fiercely, and will go out in an explosion that will bite at the atmosphere. But he is thousands upon thousands of miles from the next warm thing. Is this not his way? Now, of course, he is surrounded by the clutter of other living beings. It is an unfortunate necessity to need a home, and for parties to require society to fill them. Vasilios lives within the city of Rekhanci, a starburst of light that never stays long but always leaves an afterimage. |
