Not all things are equal in this life. Most dragons will not spend much time pondering about this fact, nor do they ever need to, but some are unfortunately beaten over the head with this fact more than is strictly fair. Arctic is one of them, and he is painfully aware there is nothing to do about it, but it instilled a burning desire to see wrongs made right. His soul would writhe beneath his skin, a trembling giant waiting to be unleashed, but there was only so much a small dragon could do. When facing down an opponent frighteningly large, of the sort that could crush him with nary a sneeze, how does one stand ground without being foolish about it? Is there even a true purpose in chasing the unyielding ideals of those seeing the world in black and white, refusing to acknowledge the many shades of grey hiding beneath the surface? Arctic never found any true answers to the many questions that plagued him since his youth, but he learned to be more clever than foolish, and that had to count for something. As he grew and learned about the ways of the world, Arctic took it upon himself to learn how to even the odds. He wanted to make changes, to give the unfortunate one a shot at greatness, but going about it single-handedly was as far from easy as he'd ever gone. What was fair was not profitable, nor was it simple, and dragons were not tempted by his passionate speeches. His genuine wish to save the world was brushed aside as easily as the evening insects, and Arctic faced a lifetime of rejection because of the path he'd chosen for himself. The path to righteousness would not be easy, he'd known it all along, but realizing how few in the world cared about fairness hurt. Arctic couldn't change all of Sornieth, could he? Was there any dragon that possibly could? … could that dragon ever be him? | __ |
