xxx Briareus The Reborn |
"An emperor rises, born of the remnants of plague, nature and light.."
|
xxxx they are just baby baby mode activated Though they may appear to look like any other imperial hatchling at first glance, albeit larger than average, it doesn't take long before most notice the extra heads, wings and the decay, leading to them recognizing Briareus for what they are; An Emperor, the unholy abomination born from the remains of dead imperials. Despite the reputation and horror stories surrounding emperors (including the much larger specimen roaming nearby), Briareus is rather tame, and though they're wary around unfamiliar dragons, they tend to warm up pretty quickly after receiving a treat or two, and will act like any other hatchling would (albeit larger and a bit more undead). And though they cannot communicate verbally, likely due to their vocal cords being too damaged and decayed, they can understand simple questions and phrases, as seen when someone asks them if they want food (the immediate snap to attention on the asker is a definite 'yes.') Briareus is rather famous around the Sunrise Citadel, and can be seen playing or hanging around the other inhabitants. They've been seen following Mint while they give their tours, chewing on various telescopes while Nox watches on, and playing with Tornado (usually some variation of fetch in which Tornado throws one of their weapons, and Briareus retrieves it, tails thumping in excitement while they wait for the skydancer to throw it again.) However, they can almost always be found with their caretaker, Atlas, whether they're following them like a lost corgi, clinging to their leg with an all too familiar hatchling pout, contently snacking on whatever feast the guardian has gotten for them, or laying across the larger dragons back, exhausted from all the fun they've had. |

Memories
Quote:
'Beginning'
The memories of before they awoke are blurred, neither verdant nor lux being able to recall more than the strongest emotions, fear and pain before the feeling of safety enveloped them.
But the one of many gazes, bane, could remember more.
----
They could remember the acrid smell of smoke, of the metallic tang of blood. The stickiness between their talons, from the mixture of different fluids soaking into the ground.
They could remember the ever-lasting agony, every breath, every movement sending another spike of pain through their small body.
They could remember the screams and wails of other dragons, before the overwhelming silence.
They remembered finally moving their head as much as they could without the blinding pain becoming too much.
They remembered noticing the blurry shapes amongst the remains, the forms of their siblings.
They remember crawling, dragging themselves over to them.
They remember laying on top of them, with what was left of their wings spread out over their siblings in one last attempt to protect them.
And then, darkness..

'Trust'
a strange dragon has been near our safe spot. verdant had us move as soon as we found the tracks. I tried my best to comfort my siblings when their fears and worries spread throughout our body.
I will protect them.
-
we found the strange dragon. almost our size, but larger. our body tensed as they stared at us for what seemed like an eternity. they murmured something neither I nor my siblings could understand, before slowly backing away. when we were sure they were gone, verdant moved us back to our hide.
when hunger began creeping in, we left the safety to find food. near where we saw the strange dragon was a small pile of an array of fish and meat. my siblings and i, once the initial caution was overtaken by hunger, gorged on the feast.
-
the kind one brought us food again. verdant is still wary, but lux and I have begun to feel as if we can trust them. they did not stay long after.
our feast consisted of a variety of our favourite treats, and lux and verdant passed out almost immediately after eating, content. i hope the kind one comes back.
-
they returned with more food. we didn't hesitate this time, our body running up to them. mine and lux's tails thumped with excitement as the kind one brought out our favourite meats and fish from their pouches.
we followed them eagerly as they gave us a few treats, and by the time we had had our fill, we were no longer near our den. panic flowed through our body as verdant began frantically looking for an escape, but our attention was brought back to the kind one as they murmured softly to us, soothing us and bringing back foggy memories of being smaller and being similarly soothed.
they lead us to a pile of soft looking things, and our body immediately relaxed after flopping onto the soft pile.
-
life with the kind one, atlas, as we now know, started off tough. it took a while for us to grow used to our new den and the constant presence of the larger dragon. sometimes one of us would get the urge to flee, but the others would quickly calm us down.
according to atlas, we soon 'came out of our shell', whatever that means.
we've also met more dragons, always careful around the unfamiliar ones, but we have met more we like, like the goopy sparkly dragon who lets us chew on their metal things, or their happy friend who sneaks them treats and toys when atlas isn't looking. even the scary one who tosses their spikey thing for us to get.
