All Worlia had ever wanted was a normal life. A boring one, even. And yet, here she was.
Worlia tried to keep the stench of fish from her nostrils as she walked down the pier, a cloak pulled low over her head to keep her face hidden. In a tavern nearby, a lively pirate crew gambled away their meager savings while enjoying the finest refreshments the little port town had to offer. Unbeknownst to them, their most troublesome shipmate was making a hasty escape. Worlia had joined the pirate’s crew as a mere deck hand, content to mop and clean her days away in blissful monotony. Three days into her first oceanic voyage, however, a terrible storm had tossed the ship like a leaf, leaving it battered and barely seaworthy. To make matters worse, Worlia had lost the crew’s only map in the confusion, leaving them helplessly marooned. If it weren’t for a benevolent wind that carried them within sight of land, the entire crew might have perished. Considering her past, Worlia shouldn’t have been surprised by the disaster. She’d originally traveled to the Sea of a Thousand Currents after an incident with poisonous mushrooms that forced her to flee the Tangled Wood. Before that, she’d narrowly escaped a horrific archaeology accident in Dragonhome. And before that, she’d lived a peaceful existence in the Starfall Isles with her birthclan… that is, until the Plague surged across the borders of the Scarred Wasteland, killing her father and separating young Worlia from her mother. The mirror had never asked for any of these unfortunate events, and yet, chaos and disaster seemed to follow her everywhere she went. No matter how hard she tried to keep her head down, misfortune found her, refusing to let her live her life in peace. And still, Worlia longed for a simple, uneventful life. So, everytime something went wrong, as it inevitably did, she would hit the road again, start her life anew in a different realm, always with the hope that this time, things would be better. Which is why she now found herself leaving the Sea of a Thousand Currents behind, and entering the Ashfall Waste for the first time. The dragons here faced fire and brimstone on a daily basis. Surely she couldn’t be worse than that? |
