Arcing pulsing blinking across dirty counters and tacky carpet

A ghost of a time when the arcade was more than bad pizza and a messy first kiss

Trapped in the ruins of Fairhaven Mall

There’s a weird looking cat haunting the arcade

Where it dances between screens long lost to age

“Why do you keep coming back?” the neon glows

Perhaps, maybe, it’s best no one knows

The mall groans under the weight of steel and concrete which sprout moss and weeds like a head of hair dangling off the walls. Paint flecks off in mottled patterns like a snake coiling around the stores lined with mannequins trapped behind jagged glass and metal cages. The arcade under the derelict escalator booms with distant music, pings and honks and cartoonish blips echo within the empty dome of the food court. The funny cat from your nightmares runs along the tacky wallpaper in slow but graceful frames of animation. It cocks its head back and forth, repeating the motion against neon tubing that wasn't there before.

"Welcome home. We thought you were gone for good.”
