Esme

Dropped into the world of dragons and beasts and magic without so much as a wish-you-well, Esme awoke in a body not at all like the one she was used to. In a perpetually dazed "this-isn't-real-a-dream?-yes-a-dream-wait-owwhydidthathurt??", she gradually begins to accept her new life in Sornieth.

Convinced that a mistake was made somewhere (besides the obvious one of WHY AM I A DRAGON) because she's a skydancer. Who hates heights. And fainted the first time she flew too high (on accident, of course: the wind currents in south-west Sornieth are incredible). And she deals with her own emotions poorly at the best of times, and now she has to deal with feeling the emotions of all the dragons around her now too?? So now she's a mostly-grounded/introverted/anxiety-ridden/oblivious-to-social-cues skydancer. Fantastic.

(Magic? There’s magic? What kind of magic? I have magic???)

Even after getting told repeatedly that no, skydancers can't eat meat or seafood, idiot, Esme still tries desperately. The resulting stomach pains only put her off until the next time she gets hungry enough.

(But after the initial adjustment period, or perhaps even before that, Esme begins to delight in this new body of hers. It feels right in a way her previous one didn't, despite some complications.)
