- Azalar's occasionally chaotic nature and disorganization as a hatchling often irked Basalt, but despite his constant muttered complaints about his apprentice, he quickly grew rather attached to the Spiral.
- Often places small origami creatures made from various materials around the lair, although they usually end up accidentally knocked down and scattered by other dragons by the end of the day
- Dragons often get the impression that he's more a Nature dragon at heart than Plague, but this, to a degree, is quite misguided.
- He's quite proud of Azalar, and seems to be the closest thing to a parent the Spiral had.
