North (#67140609)

North was born blessed with visions of the future. From a young age in the wind flight, she was often ripped away from the present, consumed with great and terrible visions. In the chaos of the wind flight, where things changed constantly, the whole flight forever in a state of flux, it was near-unbearable.

The only thing that kept her grounded--as grounded as she could be in a kite miles above Sornieth--was her familiar, the living instrument Chord. Chord had been given to North when she was a hatchling, and cared about her greatly, weeping at her torment and rejoicing whenever she came back to herself.

Over their childhood together, Chord learned a particular, simple two-note melody they could play that would usually bring North back to the present. It was a lifesaver, and allowed North to have more control over her visions, with a lifeline to the present.

Still, they had to get out of the windswept plateau. Their journey to the ground was slow, as even with Chord's help the visions came often, but finally, they journeyed out to the predictable, regimented land of the Icefields. She sought room and board at the Greenhouse, who welcomed her as a new denizen.

There, North's visions are far more contained, and usually predict nothing more than a bad snowstorm--save for a few nights, thrashing and terrible, when North is consumed with visions of the Fortress of Ends in rubble, of the madness of the Shade reformed and devouring the world.

But Chord is there, as are her new clan, with tea and music, and North knows she is safe.
