Compared to her sisters, Thunderbird Four is tiny. Small enough to be carried by two of her sisters with ease, no bigger than some of Two's build-a-pods, but mighty for all that. She has to be; the depths of the oceans are unforgiving, and without her, her Pilot would never survive. Her sisters might be dramatically larger, but they can't even consider encroaching on her territory. Two tried, twice. Two got lucky, twice. Four has no intentions of letting her try her luck a third time. There's a lot of ocean for one small Thunderbird to cover, and she and her Pilot, Gordon, rarely tackle it alone. Two carries her to where she needs to be, because being small means she's not got the speed and range to get there in time, and then home again, because that's just good sense. Often One comes a-hovering overhead as well, eldest sister and eldest Pilot both watching with thinly-veiled terror and a desperate need to do something to help, even though there's rarely anything they can do. Rarely anything Four needs them to do, because she's highly specialised and tougher than any of the others (Five's different, Five doesn't count). Tough doesn't mean invincible, though. She's been battered to hell and back, torn to shreds and rebuilt more times than she cares to remember at this point. The oceans are dangerous in a way her sisters can't quite comprehend. Underwater volcanoes are a big no, after her last fateful encounter - almost fatal, for both her and Gordon, and she faced the all-too-real fear that she hadn't done enough, that time, to protect her Pilot. With her damage and repair count higher than the rest of her sisters put together, it could be forgiven for thinking that she wasn't as tough as she claimed, but Four's quietly smug - if at the time exasperated - that when her sisters hit a snag they can't handle, she's the one they turn to. She is, as she likes to remind Two, the only Thunderbird that's successfully completed missions underwater, on the surface of the planet, and in space. That gravity well nothing else could withstand without being crushed? Well, it tickled a little. A moon rescue? She and Gordon had had the time of their lives. Even a little game of high-speed tag didn't compromise her integrity at all. She might be the smallest, but she's far from insignificant. | ~~~~~ |
