Enamoured by the sea and not really the sort for talking, the quiet life on the water is perfect for Auk, who went to work under an experienced fisherman as soon as he was able. Now older and the owner of his own fishing vessel, Auk still fishes the waters of the Sea of a Thousand Currents and finds a serenity in it that he doesn't get on land.

Auk's love of the sea also manifests itself in his poetry. He originally picked up the hobby as a way to pass the time when catches were scarce and never intended to actually publish any of it, but after a chance meeting with another poet, who encouraged him to share his work, he found he had an audience.
