Hugo is an alchemist with a mission: break reality like an egg. He doesn't particularly care how it happens, just certain if he tries hard enough, something will eventually give. His cauldron is enormous and always bubbling with some strange new experiment. His familiar, Driff, occasionally helps out by providing a light when Hugo inevitably stays up deep into the night. However, Driff is easy to distract and will float away if snacks are to be found.

His Charge is a massive cauldron Hugo had found while he was apprenticed to Baldwin. The old cauldron was nestled among packed boxes, and whenever Hugo tells the story of how he found it (especially to his child, Halley), he stresses that he had been among those boxes multiple times, looking for things and recipes that Baldwin needed. It wasn't until he really looked at the cauldron that it clicked into place.

Experiments generally blow up in his face and leave the lair smelling like fungus for weeks. Hugo is undeterred, and forges on in his attempts to commit a crime against reality with optimism.

Somehow, these experiments are some of saner shenanigans happening in the lair.
