The night was cold and young like Sphinx, the sky crackled with the sounds of war. Darkness covered the sky and Sphinx wouldn’t know it at the time but it wasn’t the night, it was the Shade.
History was taught from mother to child and learned through accounts of the few dragons who had the strength to live in the chaos ridden world. The ones known as the deities fought against the shade, although there wasn’t a dragon who could say there ever was peace before this war. The deities had the likeness of dragons yet the strength to change the world at their will with little regard for the ones who inhabit it. All who saw this war had different hopes for how it would end but none were able to bend that unsure future.

The day the war of the deities and shade ended was hectic, the world was subjected to more chaos than what had been known. The deities fought harder than ever and a tear in the sky revealing brilliant light revealed its end.
The light shined down across the land like powerful beams of magic, the likes of which Sphinx had never seen before. In this light he could feel himself change, he felt a powerful magic run through his body and then peace. It was through this light that he could see more than what was there, that he could use a fraction of the power the deities had, that he could live forevermore to tell the tall to anyone willing to listen.
Sphinx remembered how the world was once a place where only the strong could survive and even those strong enough to level empires fell. He remembered the ancient breeds and the bogsneaks that ruled the old world thin out and retreat to the deepest depths of the earth to rise once again in a newer time. They became the forgotten breeds only to resurface in modern times, not entirely the same as they once were.

Sphinx traveled the new world with wonder in his heart, even the home he’d once known had change completely. A once cold, barren, wasteland became a winter paradise for ice dragons like him. The winds of travel took him to Windswept Plateau. He’d met a nocturne that was a wind representative, Selah. Sphinx could see the desire to travel in this young dragon, they had that in common. Although their motives differed, Sphinx traveled to see the new world while Selah wanted to travel to spread the faith of Windsinger. Whatever there motives were they decided to travel as they’d become familiar with each other. They made their way to the sparking fields of the Shifting Expanse. They did their desired actions and while exploring the region Sphinx met a dragon rebellious Alyn. This dragon wanted to leave home to see the world like Sphinx, but Alyn wanted to do this to rebel against their clan. They became friends as Sphinx told her stories of the first age, while most dragons would scoff at the idea of a hatchling telling ancient history Alyn respected Sphinx like any other. They regrouped and headed north to Sunbeam Ruins. It was here that they met an imperial named Sorcerer who’d come from the region next door. Alyn and Sorcerer had hit it off right away and it was clear where they were heading next. They met the dragons who lead the clan Sorcerer was from, Shadowsight and Starlight. The group decided that they were staying here, and if they traveled somewhere again they’d know they’d return here. The group got along with different dragons in the clan and Sphinx took a liking to Starlight, she’d listen to his ancient tales and she’d show him the modern magics. Sphinx hadn’t thought of it much but he realized that he felt piece here, something he hadn’t felt for a long time.
