Biography

Gaia is one of few dragons in the core clan to originally hail from Dragonhome. She was hatched from an abandoned egg, its icy shell nearly perfectly camouflaging with her clan's crystal-rich caverns. It was uncovered by one of the clan's mining expeditions and returned to her clan out of its own goodwill. Her clan was deeply proud of its connection to the Earthshaker, and held many of the beliefs and desires he himself holds. The most prominent of which was to treat all dragons regardless of element as kin. When she eventually cracked her shell, the clan did not see a rival, but a child of them all. Gaia was exposed to diverse and supportive clanmates since a young age and does not resent not knowing her biological parents nor where her egg came from. She holds many of the old beliefs her clan instilled into her, and does not have the ability to connect with newer mindsets. She has a harder time relating to Nature and Plague dragons due to their continued feud, and sometimes offends easily when presented with the valid reason they continue to conflict. She may not always understand them, yet she always makes an attempt to do even her views may cause even more conflict. She has learnt the hard way to leave foreign relations to the diplomats of both her past and present clan.

Gaia believes wholeheartedly it is her place to protect her clan and dragonkind as a whole. She was born with a sturdy body and dark scales thick and durable as stone. Deflecting blows has always come naturally to her, so taking up the role of a combatant has always been a no-brainer to her. Her strategies focus morso on utilizing her impressive defenses to wear down her foe whilst lashing out with powerful attacks once her foes became weakened. Conflict was rare in her clan, so she honed her skills hunting for her clanmates. Her clan believes heavily in using every part of a kill, and much of the armor and leather adorning her body was formed from her spoils. Despite her fearsome appearances, Gaia seeks to pay her clan's kindness forwards. She is a nurturing soul who has a natural tendency towards teaching and caring for hatchlings. If she were not tasked with protecting and keeping record of her clanmates, her wish would be to teach young dragons combat. In her former clan, Gaia primarily took to patrolling its borders for hostile rogues and occasionally shielding hunting parties from powerful monsters.

When she caught wind of the clan arriving in Dragonhome, she was instantly piqued. With the tensions flaring between all elements, the thought of a unified clan coexisting within them sounded like a recipe for disaster. A disaster, yet fascinating nonetheless. Though she didn't know them well, she felt a supernatural stirring to join them. If anyone was to honor the values she was brought up upon, it was a clan attempting a vision that mirrored the Earthshaker's hope of unity. To leave her clan meant honoring him as well, and explicitly asking both the deity and the priests of her clan for permission. Gaia came to them earnestly and humbly, and received the blessing of her deity. Though she was unsure which of the many clans she would become part of, Gaia was blessed with the emblem of her deity and a banner proclaiming the element she originated from. Gaia came to Shamira herself, expressing respect for her position and a will to join her clan as the progen saw fit. Shamira needed little convincing in an eager, and visibly competent warrior. Having only recently arrived in Dragonhome, she was unsure which needs needed to be filled and instead asked Gaia for her aid in navigating and establishing a base clan in their new home.

A role Gaia was happy to fulfill, even giving her own claws to dig its first den. Without her, the clan may not have gotten a foothold in their environment. Gaia educated Shamira and her clan on the practical needs and culture of the Earth Flight, and in doing so grew to know and adore each for their differences. She still may not understand those who still feel sting of flight-based rivalries, she now holds a deep respect for them regardless of their background. Gaia discovered she holds and excellent memory, and knowing the names, personalities, location, and other specifics of her clanmates across borders came easy to her. Without really thinking, she began to keep record of them all to make her duty in protecting them easier. It was little more than a personal list, yet it still caught Shamira's attention. The leader had not expected the need for archiving all past and present residents, and believed there was great use in Gaia's organization. Thus, she placed the official clan records in Gaia's claws. To be legally within the clans, each and every hatchling must be included in her list. Messengers are sent whenever a new clanmate arrives or is born. Now, even day old hatchlings must be included in Gaia's records to assure they are safe within their clans and well cared for.

Gaia's Beastclan partner, Tremor was introduced to her upon entering the clan officially. Irwin believed the tunnel hydra's impressive bulk and his own skills in battle would make it easy for them to connect. And he was right in assuming so. Tremor was the eldest of a clutch of three tunnel hydras himself, and had grown used to protecting his younger siblings with his size and hard scales. The two saw much of eachother in the other, and quickly became partners whilst helping the clan to dig out its first clan. To this day, it is still not uncommon to see them fighting at eachother's side, taking blows for the other, aiding in eachothers' work, and generally sharing comfortable chatter with eachother in times of rest.

In terms of mating, Gaia doesn't see it as much of a priority. She is attracted to both male and female dragons, but she is content in taking her time to enjoy things as they are whether or not a mate comes along soon.
