When they begun their Search, Atlas wasn't expecting that out of all of the things it could have been, that their charge would be an Emperor.
The discovery wasn't the joyous event that others had built it up to be. Atlas had stumbled upon the being after spending several days wandering the outskirts of the Sunbeam Ruins, sensing something. Then suddenly, they were standing right in front of it. At first glance, they looked like a mostly normal, albeit bigger than usual, imperial hatchling, until you noticed the extra heads, wings, leg and tails. Both beings were frozen in place, Atlas softly cursing when they recognized the overwhelming protective feelings often described by those who'd completed their search. This creature, born from those whose lives had clearly ended too early, was their charge. 
It took a while for Atlas to grow accustomed to this revelation, thanks to the bias caused by the horror stories and warnings surrounding emperors, as well as the ideals and beliefs they were raised with as a plagueling. Once they did, however, they slowly started trying to gain the beings trust. They started slow, as based on their body language from their first encounter, they were clearly scared of Atlas. First, they would leave small piles of freshly caught meat and fish, hoping that emperors would carry over the food preferences of their living brethren, rather than their larger, fellow undead counterparts. Thankfully the small emperor seemed to be satisfied with their offerings and once they found out their preferences, they soon began offering the food directly to them, using tricks they had learnt when training their ferberus. Being associated with giving food was a start, at least. Eventually the small emperor, dubbed 'Briareus' by Atlas, did begin to trust them. Soon they could carefully touch the smaller being, offering a new source of comfort, alongside applying different balms and concoctions to help lessen and slow any decay. Nowadays Atlas can't be seen wandering the Sunrise Citadel without their charge tagging along, often attempting to cling to the larger dragon. Usually disregarding the fact that they're only slightly smaller than their caretaker. |
