Alone
How do we know when we're alone?

If you're in a room by yourself, are you alone? There are others just behind the door, doing their own things, living their own lives and at any moment they could open the door to call you for dinner. What about if you're stranded in an island in the middle of the ocean? No ways of communications, no smoke signals, not even a lost seagull to wave you goodmorning and goodnight. The nearest person is miles away, but they're still on the same kingdom, the same ocean, the same planet. In the grand scheme of things, they're astonomically close to you, so close in fact that if viewed from the next planet over, you'd be occupying the same space. What constitutes as truely alone?

Fear is not a bad thing, mind you! It's what makes species stronger, more adaptable and wiser. It makes sheep avoid wolves, badgers bare their teeth at foxes, and dragons document their wisdom and mistakes for the next generation. But fear is there to be overcome. To make us stronger. We've had centuries, eons even, to find a solution for that fear a way to bare our teeth at it and make it afraid of us, the way we did to bears, to darkness, to other dragons. We've had documents upon documents, machineries upon machineries, toys upon toys to kill our disconnection and yet. Why are we still so afraid of being isolated?

The scary part isn't that we're alone. The scary part is the corner of our mind that whispers "how can you know for sure?".

light_2.png She slithers in the sky, her million eyes seeing everything, her million persons being with everything. Her presence scratches at the corner of your mind, poisoning your perception of self and judgement with her doubts, with her whispers. She withers just outside of your vision, always there, always watching. Are you ever truely alone?
