Thee who delights in the sword and bloodshed.

______ A seemingly free-flowing God who brought his followers a gift of wine and freedom, instructed to act upon what gives them joy and to live to your full potential. At the surface level, this God appears calm and bound by only himself. There is much more that lurks under the ivory crown and facade of wine.

______ A young God kindred of Zeus and the mortal princess Semele of Thebes. Due to the jealousy that boiled in Zeus’s wife Hera, Hera tricked Semele to prove Zeus’s godly status asking him to reveal his true form. Her mortal form struck down by what she cannot conceive of Zeus’s true lighting divinity. Zeus is left with an underdeveloped infant and the ashes of Semele. The unborn child, Dionysus was sewn into Zeus’s leg to bring Dionysus a chance at life.

______ The child Dionysus is born once again, his existence and upbringing kept from Hera. Dionysus raised by a variety of gods and mortals alike, the bickering of the gods around him only stewed spite and distrust for the divine. The chaos of his life could only continue to stew, transforming society and in time, himself.

______ Dionysus’s first godly gift was the creation of wine, roaming the mortal realm teaching mortals how to make the divine drink. His travels a mockery of the dichotomy that is mortality and freewill.

______Dionysus first found himself in the country of Athenian, he was first met by a man of the name of Ikarios who he taught the art of wine making. This gift of wine soon turned sour as the nature of Dionysus’s gifts ripened. Ikarios brought the pungent drink to men in the nearby village, letting them drink as much as they please. Overcome by intoxication the men believed they had been poisoned by Ikarios, pelting stones at him. Ikarios daughter, Erigone, was led by her hound to her fallen father. In distraught she hung herself from a tree and her dog lept into a well. Dionysos was enraged and pained by the result of his gift, he brought drought onto the country of Athenian. Dionysos embodied Ikarios, Erigone and her hound in the stars as he constellations Bootes, Virgo and Canis Major. The message of anger and fear written in the stars, Athenians established a festival to honour the dead heroes and give thanks to the gods in hopes to ease the wrath of Dionysus.

______ Dressed in wealth and fine clothing, the God is believed to be a prince, this results in him being captured by pirates, their plan being to bring their capture harm with no knowledge of his godly status. Tied to the mast he grins, as the ropes drop and his eyes darken, the pirates begin to fear what they have taken aboard. The helmsman wary of what doing harm to the captor will bring, warning not to touch the God to not forsake his rath. The warning is refuted, as they lay hands onto the young God wine begins to leach from the wooden ship and vines encover the barge. Ivy and grapes, blooming through the mast, oars turning to snakes. The God stands with madness in his eyes. Dionysus turns to a lion terrifying the pirates. The terrified crew flee the ship jumping overboard into the sea, while Dionysus laughs as they transform into dolphins, only the helmsman later reverts to tell the tale of Dionysus’s rath.

______ King Midas found an affinity to the God of wine with a love of all things fine, Midas found a follower of Dionysus sick and had his court nurse them. Dionysus agreed to grant the king one wish in exchange for his hospitality. The king found himself stuck by greed never satisfied with the wealth he had amassed for him and his daughter. He asked that anything he touched be transformed into gold, Dionysus granted his wish. Quickly Midas transformed all his possessions to gold but soon set down to eat a bowl of grapes, as he bit into one it cracked his tooth as the grape turned to gold in his mouth. The bread he picked up again turned into the lustrous metal, falling back into his bed the sheets turned to gold. He let out a cry of frustration, which his daughter heard. As she comes in to comfort her father he reached out his hand to find she had turned to gold. He begged Dionysus to take this power back, the young God took pity on the foolish king and took back his power and the objects reverted.

______ The contorted nature of Dionysus and his following cult showed rituals of brutality, but beauty in the name of the God of madness. They claimed his potent wine and bloodshed would bring them closer to their God.
Dionysus’s true ties to the underworld are poorly kept, but it is known he is a symbol of rebirth, ignition from new beginnings. A God of madness who paved the way for change and brought fear to the ruling class as the oppressed found power in liberation, free will, change.

______ Dionysus finds himself in Greece returning from exile, looking to take revenge on the king who outlawed his worship. Dressed as a mortal he declares himself a God before the people of thieves who refuse to believe the small clocked adolescent. He turns them mad in response to their disbelief, claiming them as his followers. He continues to leech chaos throughout the city with natural disasters and plagues of madness. Dionysus comes close to the king, slowly warping his sanity where Dionysus’s true form bleeds through his disguise. His horns begin to show and his true godly form is revealed. The king falls and Dionysus’s followers dismember the dethroned king, giving back the freedom to worship their God. The people of Greece freedom.

______ Alexandra the Great, a mortal conqueror of Greece, popularised the worship of Dionysus as a God of wealth, wine and free will. Diminishing the gods image of wine and madness, to wine and liberty.
A God of intoxicating wine, watered down to be consumable in a ruling class, never losing his true potency of madness and chaos, the true destructive beauty of change.

______ This God of chaos and madness is not only a representation of danger that can be enacted without inhibition. But represents the fertility of growth without boundaries. A God representative of breaking free of the oppressors, giving hope to those who are faced with restriction and hate. Dionysus embodies chaos and change, which brings fear and joy to followers and opposers alike.
