The Vow
Hefin had always been a minimalistic dragon. She wandered from clan to clan with little other than what she could carry on her back. Even when she ended up staying with a clan for longer than a few weeks she still refused to take from their hoard or use their money.
Her clanmates called her stubbornly independent to a fault. Her friends called her stupidly against accepting help. Her closest friend simply called her an idiot. None of this changed her mind though.
But one day when exploring a glade near the latest clan she had been staying with she met a group of dragons who shared her feelings of independence.
Although not one to be shy, she found herself lingering on the edge of the group for quite some time working up the nerve to join in their discussions of a Vow of Poverty.
"May I join?" she asked once she had sat on the edges of the group for long enough to find her voice.
And that was how the best chapter of her life began.
Day One
Hefin's first day of the vow of poverty was not a great start. She spent nearly the whole day fighting her way through the Woodland Path it had only yielded her some meaningless trinkets and food.
Though the food certainly helped her clan out of their food shortage problems which she supposed was in some ways a win.
Eventually, she took a break from fighting and, while looking for a place to rest, found herself in a strange place full of doors.
What do they even need with all these doors?
While trying to find the exit from this strange (and honestly slightly scary) place she opened one of the doors and found a few pieces of apparel behind it.
Not really my style but they'll do for now.
Later towards the end of the day, as her party entered the Scorched Forest she found a young Owlcat. She took him with her and named him Olive.
All in all, while this may not have been the best start she had certainly grown in experience and fighting prowess.
But most importantly she was looking forward to the days ahead!
Day Two
The day started off quite well when the dragon who gives away his sister's hoard (seriously their booths are like right next to each other, how has she not noticed yet?) gave her a pair of Marksman's Treads.
Oh these are perfect!
A sister clan of her's had also apparently heard about the vow and sent her a gift basket containing some lightning battle stones!
After that, a bit of grinding in the Sandswept Delta yielded her mostly experience and some food.
Later, after her exploring party returned home she spent the rest of the evening playing with Olive, watching the little Owlcat swoop and jump to catch the small toy she had attached to a string.
Day... Three?
Hefin had spent quite a while away from the strange group of like-minded dragons that made up the Vow. She had been quite busy with training and then the Dustcarve Dig fiasco had sent her clan into a frenzy of grinding. There had not been a single moment to spare as they searched high and low for lantern oil. Of all the strange things her clan did Hefin really couldn't understand their strange obsession with this dig.
Following the Dig was the influx of wild animals to hunt, which her teammates informed her was known as the Sunparched Prowl. This was followed by a push for treasure from her clan to be able to afford luxuries like genes (she didn't know why they felt the need to use money to buy these things but she still helped them out)
Finally, the BrightShine Jubilee rolled around and she had a short break from the hectic existence that was life with her clan. She took stock of the items she had managed to gather during the hectic weeks.
An Eliminate battle stone from a chest brought back from the dig, a scene found while grinding in the blooming grove, and a... Wait what was this?
She shifted away a few trinkets and a pile of food to get a better look at the unexpected item. Behind them sat a small purple and pink hatchling. It giggled at its discovery and tried unsuccessfully to hide behind a much too small stack of books.
She gave it a small pat on the head, handed it one of her excess stacks of salted game and thought nothing of it.
Until I playfully ran after her carrying the game in its mouth.
"What do you want?" she asked it in confusion
It made a small "mmrp?" sound in response around its mouthful of food.
"Hm quite understandable!" She said with a smile, humoring the hatchling.
It babbled a string of noises at her and then proceeded to climb up onto her back, still carrying the piece of food she had given it.
Huh, ok... It seemed like she just had a hatchling now. She could have sworn there was supposed to be more steps to parenthood!
