Sear was formerly a vagabond aimlessly wandering the Worldedge Wetlands with little motivation to do anything but survive. After being banished from her nomadic clan as a teen, she was left stranded in the vast wetland. Sear had no choice but to take it upon herself to learn the ways of the swamp. She used the magic she had learned while traveling the Molten Scar to hunt, fend off malicious beasts, and fight off dragons encroaching on her territory. She eventually established a small stretch of the forest all to herself and built a hut there, admittedly becoming a hermit in the process. She always defends, "You've done the same thing if all you'd known of the wetlands was darn monsters tryna kill you!". One day while hunting, Sear came across a secluded patch in the forest. The clearing was well shielded and would've been unpenetrable if Sear hadn't crash-landed through the canopy while chasing a flock of swamp birds. There were rows of raised earth, each with a little divot lined with moss. The moss seemed to be guarding what looked like rough, smallish brown eggs. To this day, Sear will never admit they were obviously dragon eggs. "They were too small to be dragon eggs goddammit! I never even had a nest of my own, how was I supposed to know eggs friggin grew?". She snatched two eggs from neighboring holes and hurried home to leave them on her hut's shelf. She never ended up making that scramble. Once they sprouted glowing green leaves and started wiggling around, Sear knew her mistake. Now, one can't exactly walk up to a couple of dragons you don't know and say "Hey! I kinda unintentionally intentionally raided your nests? Because I was planning on eating your babies? Here's your kids back!", so Sear was stuck. Sear was afraid, and reasonably so, being wholly unequipped for motherhood and all. She eventually decided to drop them off at an orphanage, and even though she had no idea where a place like that would be, set out for the journey with the eggs in tow. They wandered around the Viridian Labyrinth for what felt like weeks until Sear was forced to stop. She couldn't have known that eggs wiggle when they're about to hatch, could she? (She could have, it's seriously obvious). To her horror, two little hatchlings crawled out of the brown eggs, each with matching stunning green eyes. After taking a rest to wait out her crisis, she got up with renewed vigor, hatchlings on each shoulder, and continued to the orphanage. She never found the place, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway because the hatchlings were stuck to her like glue. Wherever she went, they just had to go too. Sear gave up on giving them away, seeing that it would be impossible to at this point anyway. Sear raised the hatchlings as if her own, teaching them everything they needed to know about thriving in the wetlands. [lore continued in Saffire's bio] |
