CAPTAIN OURANOS
Avast!!

Ouranos is a stern but fair captain. He grew up on the coast of the Windswept Plateau, and would often gaze out at the sea. He enjoyed sitting on the high cliffs and watching the occasional vessel come and go.

His parents and friends though him strange. As dragons, they had wings to fly on the air. What interest could he have for wooden boats that moved slowly on the ocean? They believed that such things were best left for flightless Snapper and dragons weighed down with Gembond genes. However, their opinions did not deter him from perusing a dream atop the waves.

There were very few port cities in the Windswept Plateau, but young Ouranos has no trouble finding his way to the largest one on the south coast. It was here that he learnt the art of navigation and the challenges of becoming a sailor. During the next several years, he had worked on five different ships: three merchant and two transport vessels of various sizes. Ouranos grew strong muscles under his scales from the tireless work on board the travelling ships. This work took him to all corners of known world as his experience grew. He would need this experience if he was to become a captain one day.

He bitterly saved his treasure during these years, and by the time Ouranos was three years old, he could finally buy a ship of his own. It wasn't the biggest or the most impressive, but it was sound and seaworthy. Stepping onto his ship, into his captain's quarters, was the best moment of his life.

Dreams had become a reality. He hoisted the flag that he had been carrying around in anticipation of this day. His design was of a red squid with six tentacles that wrapped around a sun. This was stitched onto a white cloth with red trimming on the end. Then, finally, it was displayed on the highest mast of his ship. The ship itself is a large Frigate, almost Galleon sized. He named it The Noble Slushie Maker at his younger sister's suggestion. Now all that was left was to find a crew.

THE CREW...

His first member was LordVegemite, who was given the position of first-mate. During the past several years, they had formed a friendship and had always tried to find work together.

Vegemite is a strong Skydancer who always has Ouranos' back. He knew of Ouranos' dream to captain his own ship and had promised to join him when that day arrived --in fact, he helped his Imperial friend save for the treasure. Vegemite loves the sea, so as long as they could be together on the ocean, it didn't matter that he was risking his savings to join him. Ouranos engraved this kindness in into his heart.

The rest of the crew would be trickier to find. Vegemite could work for food and a place to stay if he had to, but other dragons would rightfully expect coin for their efforts. Having a ship did not make Ouranos rich. He and Vegemite had to struggle alone on jobs for a whole season before they could even think about providing for a crew.

Many positions needed to be filled to ensure they'd be sailing smoothly. Ouranos and Vegemite could handle sailing and navigation themselves (with difficulty) until the found deck hands, but a shipwright and cook would be essential before finding more members. LordVegemite posted recruitment messages while at port, but many dragons ignored them when they saw the below average wages that were being offered.

A sea faring wildclaw approached them while they were docked at a Windswept Plateau port. Tempest inquired about the shipwright position they had advertised and seeming did not care that the pay was undervalued. She looked like a bit of a handful, but they took her on immediately as their were in desperate need of someone with her skills.

What Ouranos and Vegemite didn't know at the time was that she was kicked off almost every ship in the harbour for her difficult personality: loud, brutally honest (in an obnoxious way) and hot-tempered. She is bound to give the a few headaches in the future.

Their next crew member was quite unexpected.....
