Chance

Chance lives in the basement of a decommissioned lighthouse. While Stargazer above scries by night, Chance brews tonics and potions all day, every day. While brilliant, he felt nevertheless unfulfilled in the Astrolodome where his bizarre mannerisms and eccentricity made him a bit of an outcast among the sophisticated scholars. He eventually packed his bags to wander Sornieth for a place where he truly belonged. While touring Water territory, his boat out of Flotsam Town got damaged. Neither athletic nor of impressive wingspan, his poor flight capabilities meant he was stranded for several months. While there, he met Stargazer, an equally magically-inclined Ridgeback, who was gleeful to meet a dragon like him-and an Arcane scholar, no less, who must know all about the finest telescopes and the movements of the stars! The two bonded over their shared interests and eventually Stargazer suggested they pool their money to purchase a decommissioned lighthouse by the Shoredeep Presage, which they could repurpose into an observatory-lab. They both set off as soon as they could catch a boat out of town and settled into the tower together. Unfortunately, the two can't talk much nowadays due to how much diligence and upkeep their crafts require (as well as the fact that Stargazer refuses to crawl out of bed before sunset and Chance never learned how to correct his atrocious sleep schedule from school.) Most of the time they spend together is done for work reasons, and Chance sometimes sneaks into Stargazer's loft in the morning to deliberately mess with his equipment just so he has an excuse to go upstairs and help recalibrate it when the scryer awakes. They probably could get more genuine time together if Stargazer wasn't so bad at communicating and Chance wasn't so, so unpunctual. In fact, he even enchanted his cauldron to remind him when it's been boiling too long or when he needs to clean it out because of how many brews his poor time management had ruined.
