DYNAMITE DRAGON SUBSPECIES
This dragonoid species has been enchanted by the greatest mages of the rebellious Fire dragons of the Ashfall Waste in defense of the Newborn Island against the tyrannical Guildmasters. They can actively evaluate friend from foe and seek out the opposition to fight and destroy. A group of them are called a bundle or pack. Originally made to be living weapons they have also found niches as Miners and Demolitionists not just in the Ashfall Waste but all across Sorneith even if the bulk of their population remains there.
They have the ability to forcibly erupt fire magic from their whole bodies in a concussive explosion. Regardless of inborn element they all have the fire magic they can use, this is known to impact the way their magic expresses itself, the sizable Light and Plague subsets are often more flashy or noxious respectively. The rare Lightning subset have a habit of glowing an alarming green before their lightning/fire mix explodes.
Their dispositions have the same range as any dragon but they notably often feel emotions all at once and at an immense amount only for it to pass as quickly as it takes the dust to settle. They’re known to burst into tears of joy or sorrow out of nowhere, have aptly named explosive fits of anger and are known to ‘go to pieces’ when distressed or scared.
Dynamite Dragons have their ‘wicks’ gradually change into ashen grey shades from tip to hips and at that point will forcibly erupt their fire magic regardless of situation, this will leave their tails without the glowing plates they’re known for and will be noticeably more lethargic and spaced out until the plates regrow and their colors return to normal. This state can be naturally delayed by use of fire magic routinely. It is thought they commune with the Flamecaller during their ‘burnt out’ phase. Their shed plates have been mistaken for fire starters but actually have no such quality when struck together. Dynamite dragons do often grind them up and then pack the powder into flat sacks and thick bricks to sell, trade or gift because they are notably warm no matter the season, reminiscent of glowing embers blessed by the Flamecaller. The most common usage is for beds to lounge in and seats to nestle around for heat.
Unique of the variants Original Dynamite dragons love a good surprise, especially by spooking their friends by silent ambush hugs, and making a bone-chilling hiss before they emote. Blackwick variants are not known to have much differences other than a noted disdain for lying, even for surprises, and a habit of flailing when they feel great emotion. Longfuse variants have a better handle of their tempers but seem to dither and get stuck on an emotion for a long period even long after the initial event has passed.
