Biography
Dia (dy-ah) | "How fascinating!" Sleepy • Studious • Fanatical |
Clan Role: Archivist Gender: NB (they/them) Orientation: ?? Familiar: Disoriented Spirit |
Take a year off grad school to pursue a local cryptid sighting and soon as you blink, an entire clan springs up around you. At least, that's how Dia tells it, their voice soft and slow as an echo. As they re-shelve books—by spine color, oddly—Dia elaborates. Yes, it was Ramu who led them to the clearing—"a gift," she'd smiled: "the trees approve of you." As their friendship grew, so did the number of favors Ramu cashed in, dropping soul after lost soul off at Dia’s campsite. "Just a few hours, usually, half a day at most. She'd retrieve them after finding the rest of their party. Now, some of these dragons were straight out of a storybook: drapey clothes, ancient markings, stuttered sentences I could barely translate." Dia gestures towards their extensive collection of foreign language—both Beastclan and Draconic—tomes. "And I know languages. Figured I'd need 'em for work." Back then, chasing leads was Dia’s passion. They spent the vast majority of their time out among the trees—which, Dia notes, never gave them any trouble. "Ramu’s right, something 'round here likes me." It was weeks before they noticed someone else’d moved in. Then another, and another, and so the Tabemono settlement grew. These days, Dia primarily works in their beloved crypt of a library. Nestled beneath Kili's glittering glass temple, there Dia reads, writes, translates, and organizes supernatural literature to their heart’s content. "Joint issues run in the family, I knew they’d hit me sooner rather than later. Luckily, scoring rare texts hits the same high as fieldwork." They’ve even stocked some self-published papers on the Tabemono shelves. "Never know who’ll be a fan," Dia grins. As for their favorite book? "It's sci-fi, of course." Dia wiggles their eyebrows and produces a worn copy of Annihilation. "If I could live in Area X—if I could make Area X—I would. I wanna study The Crawler like a bug." |
