The mirror leads you through a maze of bookshelves in his impeccably garish den, sconces lighting the way. Bits of expensive-looking scrolls languish in the shelves, quite obviously purchased for their rarity, not for unfurling. The guy that talks a big game about "not drawing attention" and "privacy is our number one concern in this industry" obviously does not practise what he preaches. As if to be self-aware, he laughs - a chilling thing for you to hear, not out of fear but rather discomfort.
"Material possessions in a clan like this mean little. Most think that I am merely a collector. Taking it to its next logical conclusion, you can see the benefit in this belief should we be...caught." Stopping in front of a bookcase, he suddenly jams his hand against some manuscript spine, forcing the entire bookcase in - to reveal a paint-stained doorway. The mirror practices his smile on you again, but it's no less unsettling than the first. "Shall we?" With a steady claw and an impossibly good talent at copying the works of others, Deepfake makes his living creating replicas of Sornieth's most famous artworks. His knowledge of global art history is unmatched and passionate, as is his love of money. These works are often pedalled to fences, with Deepfake knowing better than to risk selling the forgeries directly - though he has been known to do so with impeccable grace and coolness for, particularly big scores. Very few know of his true occupation for obvious reasons. Most don't even know that the mirror can paint. He likes to brag to the few in the loop that the artwork lining his den is 100% original - but who would be able to tell? |
