It was a stormy, rainy night. Shadowmist and Redwing were sitting by the entrance of their den, while Pastel and Cassiel were discussing something important. A sudden cry rang out from the clan's entrance. Cassiel perked up while Pastel followed. Shadowmist looked at them and got up to come too. Redwing headed back to the den. The three cautiously walked toward the entrance and found a torn basket covered in torn rags. Carefully, Shadowmist lifted the rag to find something shocking. An abandoned arcane egg. It was dull and hardly floating. She put the cover back on the ordered Pastel to take it to the healer's cave as Shadowmist headed to the leader's den.
"What are you planning to do with it?" called Pastel.
Shadowmist turned away and headed to the corner she'd always slept in. "I'm not sure, but if you think it can survive, we can keep it."
Pastel nodded and laid down near Shadowmist.
Back in Pastel's den, the egg shook as Pastel lifted the rags. She noticed that the egg was resting on a piece of purple and blue silk, and there was a note. She picked it up and read it. There was a note written in blood. She read it carefully.
Take care of them ple
Pastel felt uneasy. Why was this written in blood? Why was the word "please" unfinished? The egg moved again. Pastel turned around and to her surprise, a black liquid started to pour out of the egg. She screamed in surprise and fell over.
"W-What the- What in the name of Icewarden- SHADOWMIST!"
Shadowmist rushed over and glanced at Pastel. "Yes?"
Pastel pointed at the egg.
Shadowmist flinched a bit when she saw the egg. "What... What the... Pastel, do you know what's happening?"
Pastel shook her head. "I've never seen this happen before."
Shadowmist approached the egg carefully. "Oh. This... This isn't good. Get Redwing to bring the hatchlings and other members of the clan to the bunker. And bring Starchaser, Cassiel, and the guards here."
"O-Okay?" answered Pastel hesitantly.
Shadowmist stared at the shuddering egg, more black goo leaking out of it. With Pastel out of her way, she poured a chemical she'd taken from Princeton.
"You'll never get me." whispered Shadowmist. "You'll never succeed. Never."
The goo stopped to drip a bit, but most of it was still leaking out. Shadowmist had run out of the chemical. Frustrated, she sat and waited for Pastel to come back.
"Hey, I've got Cassiel, Starchaser, and some of the guards here. Wait, is the goo dripping less? What happened?"
"Nothing." answered Shadowmist.
"Er, okay."
Shadowmist moved away from the egg and Pastel walked towards it.
"It's dripping less. Maybe it'll stop soon." said Pastel.
Shadowmist turned to Redwing. "The files about the Shade, hand them over."
Redwing was taken aback. Shadowmist had never acted strict towards him. He nodded and handed over the scrolls she requested.
Shadowmist dismissed him analyzed the scrolls carefully.
