Biography

Elegant Slaughter | Deceiving Prince
Son of None | He/Him
He may be of the Effuvial Crows and one of them by blood-bond, but he's still the ugly duckling in his familial flock's eyes. The only hatchling of two proud, traditional Effuvial Crows, Eluf was seen as a curse by the pair. Plaguebringer herself must have been displeased with them to give them such a firstborn, coloration as it is.
It’s a big disadvantage for survival, even in the bone-strewn Plaguelands, and Eluf ended up rejected by his family and flock. His deep red runes, pulsing with infectious magic, forced his parents to see how he's still a part of the bloodline no matter how little Eluf himself or anyone else in the flock believes that. In the end; instead of accepting himself for who he is and that he does belong, his flock sold him into slavery, ridding themselves of the curse blighting their territories. Eluf has grown to despise his coloration because everyone else he grew up with did the same. His built up resentment and hate towards himself and the rest of his family has led Eluf to be hostile and aloof towards most dragons, especially purebred Crows. His time as a slave didn't improve his outlook, only broadened his dislike. For six years, Eluf changed hands, picking up skills he didn’t think he would ever have need for and skills he would never want to learn. Respect was the hardest lesson of them all. It was a "good thing" he was one of the prettier ones. Dancer, escort, slave. It only took six years for Eluf to fight his way out, after flouncing around as a pretty empty-headed toy for idiots to pretend to have tamed. There are scars on his back; old ones, with pale tissue covering the jagged marks. He hides them behind layers of delicate silk and soft cotton, and artfully deflects questions about the way he walks and carries himself (a little stiffly, but the very paragon of elegance nonetheless). It isn't polite to stare. Those who know Eluf a little more intimately understand that while he never leaves a customer unsatisfied, he won’t utter a word throughout the exchange. In his years spent as a slave, too many had forced themselves upon him, and getting others to respect his wishes is still something he struggles with. He distrusts far, far too easily. There are rumours of him being involved with a multitude of dragons, most of all the peculiar Daerines, yet these rumours do not compare to whispers of his actual strength. Already, the Godhunters suspect. He has no idea what kind of power lies untapped in his claws; Plague magic hums in his throat and his chest, yet it is a feeling Eluf is long used to ignoring. Even as a wound seems to sing for his claws and the battlefield calls his name, Eluf lies unhearing and unseeing, oblivious to anything but the shrillness of his own screams when his nightmares dig their claws in. »━━━━━━━━━━━━━━« Something overlooked among Crows because of their high aptitude for battle is their incredible vocal talents. Being excellent mimics, problem-solvers, and strategists, they outmatch all other subspecies (at least, in their opinions.) This reflects how Eluf prefers to win through subterfuge and strategy before anything else. Instead of visually, he mentally and internally represents, communicates, and lives through a Crow's eyes. trivia >> his horn's runes pale the more incensed he becomes >> Daerines, Umbra, and Tyr are the only Crows he likes >> slender, average height, coordinated. >> well-meaning, cautious, bitter. >> >> nickname(s): |
