Shanneira cuts a striking figure with her rich, blood-red coloring and her careless elegance—even when she’s not surrounded by pale mirrors a fifth her size. She looks as though she’d be right at home among royalty, and she probably would be, but it’s not because she shares the upbringing and attitudes of the nobility. Instead, it’s because she just doesn’t give a flap. King or scavenger (or scavenger-king)—it’s all the same to her. Dragons are just dragons; anyone can be a friend or an enemy, a good guy or a jerk. Generally she assumes the best, but she’s not blind or stupid—she can tell quickly if someone isn’t worth her time and will instruct them very plainly to step off. Although her manner is usually relaxed and casual, she’s no pushover, and she’s not to be trifled with if she really gets angry. After leaving her birth home in the Tangled Woodlands, she travelled aimlessly for a while until she ended up apprenticed to a tea merchant at Churnscar Wharf. During that time she struck up a casual acquaintance with Korat, who frequently passed through the area on her acquisition trips. Intrigued by Korat’s stories of life in the Starfall Isles, and still feeling footloose and not quite ready to settle down, she paid a visit to the Arcane realm; finding it both interesting and scenic, she took on a series of trading-related jobs there. She kept in touch with Korat, and through her eventually met Lenore. It wasn’t exactly love at first sight, but there was definitely an attraction—Shannneira found herself charmed by the tiny, angry mirror, while Lenore immediately developed a blatant crush on her—and that attraction grew into emotional intimacy and eventually a relationship that led Shanneira to come and live at the Spire. It’s not an entirely comfortable situation, since Shanneira knows that Lakeisha really doesn’t want her there, and she hopes that someday she and Lenore will move on together. (Lenore seems to want to, but resists any movement toward actually doing so, which Shanneira finds deeply frustrating. It’s the main source of arguments between them.) Partly because of Lakeisha, and partly because the Spire itself is a little cramped for imperials, Shanneira renovated part of a ruined tower located in the nearby forest into a home. It’s perhaps a bit...rustic...but she finds it comfortable and homey. She’s cleared a little land for a garden (meat and fish is all very well, but some variety is nice), which has been something of a learning experience but overall has proved successful. She still has a great fondness for tea, developed during her stay at the Wharf, which leads her to make periodic excursions to more civilized places in order to maintain her stash. (She also has an extreme passion for pastries, another food that the pack is sadly deficient in.) These trips have evolved into low-key trading excursions—the coli team is happy to turn over some of their finds to her (she’s the better bargainer anyway), and Lotus often gives her a list of incidental things to pick up if she can. Life is pretty good, especially with Lakeisha’s decision to finally open up their territory, maybe even to an actual town. It’ll be nice to see some new faces. (Especially if one of them belongs to a baker.) 
» There was a moment of awkward confusion when Lenore discovered that Shanneira is physiologically male, but they got past that quickly. They’ve nested together, but they’re not especially devoted parents (Lenore has Issues, and Shanneira would rather be a kid’s friend than their mom). Both agree that they don’t want Lakeisha's claws on their children, so they keep a close watch over them and encourage them to leave the lair once they're grown. | ********** |
