Biography
T E V R A THE DARK PRIESTESS She found something, down in the deep dark of the ocean. She turned away from the Tidelord, turned away from her people. It sings, but only to her. It whispers, but only to her. She is the Voice through which Nadroth speaks. She is honored to have been chosen. |
Tevra felt at home beneath the crashing waves moreso than on land. From birth, she swam. The ocean called to her, pleadingly, every moment she was away. Found as an orphan on the shores of the Water Flight, many became quickly convinced that Tevra was woven into existence by the Tidelord himself. She spoke of no parents, no family. She was born in the water, and only came here out of curiosity. While the starstruck Guardians around her poked and prodded for information, Tevra cast quick glances back to the sea, wishing to go home.
They would leave her things that meant nothing to her. Treasure, trinkets, finely woven clothes. Tevra only needed the ocean. The others, it seemed, needed her. She did not like to be needed. Tevra did not feel free anymore.
So, she dove. She pushed the limits of her abilities and swam down, down, down, until the light of the world gave up trying to follow her; until everything was black and silent. Tevra counted the minutes as she held her breath, testing how long she could remain before surfacing, when something rumbled in the darkness. It resonated through her. The harder she listened, the more she could make out words. The ocean was speaking to her! Excited, Tevra closed her eyes, focusing as hard as she could muster.
It told her everything.
Tevra knew everything that had ever happened on Sornieth. She knew everything that had ever happened before Sornieth. Not by word of mouth, but through experience. The Ocean flooded her mind with not a tale for the ages, but memories. Memories of another being. It watched planets form, stars collapse, and it watched life bloom and Gods do battle with one another. It watched The Shade consume and the conflicts of all the clans on her planet. Tevra experienced all of it, feeling alien in her own body, and after what felt like the passing of hours she swam her way back to the light of day and screamed into the sky.
"We are so small and insignificant. To feel things as a God feels, see things as a God sees, it makes everything else dull. I cannot feel anything anymore. I wish to be in that form again, to be so vast and great."
Tevra looks down at her paws, flexing her fingers. She once thought herself a powerful swimmer, a force of nature, one with the ocean. But now, she knew how tiny she was. She knew she was not a being of any importance or weight. Not like It was. It promised her, in those depths, that she could ascend, so long as she carried out Its will. She stands in front of her congregation as they eagerly await her sermon.
Today, she will take them to The Door.
