Day One They were so tired, and hungry, and so so thirsty. They must have been wandering for what, a few days? A week? Maybe two. Regardless, it was such a relief to see another dragon. She sat, her arms broad and muscular, pouring a cup of tea. Sage stumbled their way over to her and sat down. “My goodness,” the purple fae said. “You look exhausted! Are you lost?” “I am,” said Sage. “I don’t know where to go, or who I am, or where I came from. All I know is that I’m Sage, and I would really like a cup of that tea you have there.” The strong fae pushed her own cup towards them. “Well, Sage, you may have my cup. I’m certain you need it much more than I do. My name is Lavender, by the way.” There were many gulps before Sage replied. “I’m Sage. Oh wait- I just said that. Thank you for the tea, Lavender, I’m feeling better already. What’s in it?” “Oh, just some herbs from around the land.” “You can just... find this stuff?” Sage asked in astonishment. They felt a little silly that there had been such good tasting things around them this whole time and they never thought to use any of it. “Oh yes!” Lavender exclaimed. “The land has everything one could possibly need, I should know.” “Why’s that?” Sage inquired. “Because, from a very young age, I took a vow of poverty. I had heard the legend of Salmanstrong, and felt inspired to do the same as he. Of course, I didn’t do it alone. But they live inside the village.” Something suddenly clicked for Sage. They knew that whatever this vow was, they needed to take it. “I would like to take the vow as well,” announced Sage. “Are you sure? It’s a lot of work, and there will be days where you feel like you’re getting nowhere, and there will be judgements from other dragons who live so lavishly in their giant homes.” “I don’t care,” said Sage. “I need to do this.” And so, with an experienced friend at their side, Sage took the vow and began their journey to become the strongest dragon they could be. |
It only took a few hours until Sage spotted something shiny glinting beneath some moss. The two faes ripped the moss away to reveal an entire stash of chests. Most looked old, and rusted, but two were in pristine condition. Excitedly, Sage opened them up.
There were many random items, including old fossils, stray chess pieces, and a few empty scroll cases. However, some pieces of clothing caught their attention. There was a cape, gloves, and some green boots. There were also some satchels, which Sage figured they’d need to store food in on their long journey. Feeling inspired, and excited by their finds, Sage followed Lavender to the training grounds, where they met the most friendly moth they had ever encountered. As they continued training, the moth continued to stay by Sage’s side, and cheer them on.
With a smile, Lavender exclaimed, “Ah! You’ve gone and found yourself a familiar already, havent you!”
“...I guess? She is pretty nice to have around, I must say. She’s my own personal cheerleader!”
“I’ll say,” Lavender said. “Well, you’ve begun making yourself a nice outfit and you’ve found a friend, all in the first day. Nice job! I think you have deserved a nice, long, rest.”
“A rest does sound nice...”
And so, the two went back to Lavender’s home for some tea.
Day Five
The next few days mostly consisted of observation. Sage watched intently as Lavender expertly battled creature after creature, scaring them off into the wild as they ventured on. Eventually, Sage felt comfortable enough to to try and mimic her moves. Though their scratches made only small marks on the beasts, Lavender assured them that it was good practice. By day three, Lavender had taught them how to take the strength of another and give it to themself. By day five, Sage’s strength was nearly equivalent to Lavender’s, that is, if she were to not have any enchanted stones aiding her in battle. When Sage inquired about how they might obtain such stones, Lavender simply said that they would come in their own time. For now, patience was what mattered. Begrudgingly, Sage accepted the answer, and continued on their quest.
