Calypso

A light flickered in the darkness. It was trying its best. It fought against the murky surroundings that were drowning out everything else. Another light appeared. And another. There were now quite a number of them managing to maintain their light. They danced around each other. Sometimes colliding, creating small sparkles.

A low chuckle escaped Calypso at the sight. Immediately all the light died out again as if frightened.

My child... a soft voice spoke to her inside her head. I see you've awoken.

"Where is this?" Calypso spoke, her voice sounding weirdly muffled.

Suddenly the surroundings lit up by what appeared to be over a thousand small lights. Some were a warm orange, some a soft pink, and others a cold blue. For a second Calypso figured she must be high up in the sky, far enough to have reached the stars. But as one of the lights softly bumped into her right wing she quickly realised... they were all jellyfish.

Spread your wings.

Calypso twirled around in the dimly lit darkness and spread out her wings, noticing the celestial patterns now covering them. The realisation came to her without surprise for deep inside she had known it already. She had died. Yet something ruffled her feathers the wrong way.

"Why am I not in the sky with my people?"

Your heart has always been with the sea, my child, has it not? This is where you truly belong.

Calypso thought back at her past life, all the days she had been sitting by the shore. Gazed upon the rough as well as calm seas. The windless night when the surface was so smooth that the sky and sea merged into one. It all felt so distant now. It was all in a past chapter of her life.

"What am I to do?"

Breathe.

Something tugged at her. A need for air. Confused she started making her way up towards the surface. With incredible speed she shot out of the water into the crisp night air. The millions of stars were there to greet her as she spun around to take in her surroundings. She was in the middle of nowhere, only water as far as she could see- or? Something stood out against the night sky. A flickering reminiscent of lamplight. Was that a ship?

Guite them, my child. That is what you are to do. Guide the lost souls home. Trough your bond with both the sea and the sky they shall return home safely. Now go. Embrace your destiny.
