decaying leaves cover the forest floor. an altar made of well-worn wood sits in a clearing, a crumbling stone wall around it. red-capped mushrooms and ivy grow undisturbed atop it.

the first day of autumn has arrived, and the sounds of laughter and music ring in november’s ears. he watches the festivities from the temple stairs, taking in the smell of cinnamon and apple cider. his sister, october, sits beside him. she is not welcome at the festival and she knows it. november glances at her. she is beautiful, like him, but she is rotting away. she brings a somber mood to the festival and makes november want to lie down and let moss and fungi and dirt cover him forever.

but today is a day to enjoy the sweet autumn air and the happiness of the dragons surrounding him, so november begins to celebrate.


november is the god of autumn. his annual festival is on the first day of autumn. his twin sister is october, and while she represents the decaying, darker parts of autumn, he represents the beautiful, happy parts.
