Shaken by a turbulent youth, Nox took to scepticism like a depin took to water. New foods, new dragons, new decorations— Nox will be cautiously suspicious of it all. She simply isn't thrilled by change, or new things at all, in the manner many dragons will be. What is new is unknown and that, she's learned, could mean anything; predictability is key. But the life of a paranoid one is not easy, nor is it comfortable, and Nox hides herself away in her work rather than face the issues haunting her so many years after leaving the source of her chaotic mind. There is conflict within her—guilt, hatred, sadness, and longing—and she is barely functional on the best of days. Because, no matter how much she wishes for it, there are simply some wounds time cannot heal. No, Nox knows the value of trust, and she knows the value of betrayal, for she was born from a union surely cursed by the gods as vengeance for the horrors caused by her wicked parents. If it weren't for betrayal and the toxicity it left behind, Nox would not be alive. And isn't it sad to know one wouldn't exist if it weren't for terrible dragons shamelessly reaching for what their greedy hearts desired? Nox tries not to think too much about it, lest she worry herself to a headache again. Instead she works hard to create those safe, comfortable routines to hide within. Because only then does she allow herself to relax, no matter how foolish a notion that is, and the joyful dragon beneath the chilled exterior may emerge. For there is a large personality simmering beneath the surface, a whole mind filled to the brim with curious intelligence and talent, that most will never get to meet. Shrouding herself in her comforts, Nox buries herself in work and research. It has become her crutch over time, the endless hours spent pouring over books and furiously scribbling notes, and her frail peace relies entirely on the fickle hands of the Fates. With the night at the tips of her claws, and the innate power she tries to supress trembling when the tension lets go, Nox turns her face towards the horizon. This may be obvious to most, given her tendency to delve headfirst into research projects at the most inconvenient times, but it is an integral part of her being she refuses to deny. She is curious, she is sceptical, and she dreams of writing books about all the things she see fit to research. Trust does not come easy to Nox. She is a guarded creature, always wary and always on edge, and paranoia follows her as closely as her own shadow. Getting past her defences is a fruitless endeavour; she has fashioned her hide from iron and her heart from steel. Her turbulent youth has undoubtedly left marks and there is no erasing them. Nox will carry it with her until her final day, this she knows, and so she packs it all away in the deep recesses of her mind.
