Biography
Wolf-Rayet
Captain of the NCSS Horizon Seeker
weird lore idea, note to self: what if the Pillar was actually a space elevator the whole time lol would that be sick or what
original: star/con/opal pearlcatcher
NCSS: Nova Carinae Starship
To the outside observer, indeed to the NC organization itself, Captain Rayet is a severe and practical individual, ambitious but a realist, an explorer but a pragmatic one. Of course, to the crew of the Horizon Seeker, he is all these things and more; because really, when you're out in space with such a small crew for years on end, it's difficult to not become like a family. Rayet is reliable, confident, powerful but not without empathy, and devoted wholeheartedly to those under his command.
usually chill but an absolute neat freak, everything needs to be in its proper place or So Help Me God, do NOT rearrange or even shift anything on his desk
"From out there on the Moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a ****.’”
-Edgar Mitchel, Apollo 14 astronaut

[MISSION CONTROL] Horizon Seeker, this is Vigilance. Over. [HORIZON SEEKER] We hear you loud and clear, Vigilance. Everything looks good on our end. [MISSION CONTROL] Roger. All flight controllers go, no go for warp drive activation. FIDO? Go. Guidance? Go. Control? Go. GNC? Go. COM? Go. Surgeon? Go. Horizon Seeker, you are GO for drive activation. Good luck. [HORIZON SEEKER] Roger. See you on the other side. Seeker Out. Captain Rayet twists his head to survey his crew from where he sits buckled tightly into his seat, the helmet blocking the corners of his vision. When he gives the command, it will either spell their doom or the start of a new era for dragonkind. And yet the atmosphere on the bridge is completely serene. His crewmates catch his gaze, and he’s proud to see their eyes hold no fear. He turns to look straight ahead, at the field of stars outside, holding his head high. “Activating warp drive in three… two… one…” [HORIZON SEEKER] Vigilance, this is Horizon Seeker. We’ve done it, everyone. We made it. … We are in visual range of Merakai Station. The warp took out the main engine; they’re gonna have to tow us in. But we’re alive, and we did it. |

Now the big ships fly to a hundred suns by pushing the speed of light
And they want good men for the deep space runs, pushing the speed of light
And the pay is good, and you're young and strong,
And you tell yourself that it won't be long
So you sign on board, hear the drive's deep song, pushing the speed of light
Pushing the speed of light
And you've left behind you the world of men
With no way in space to go home again
When you're pushing the speed of light
Pushing the speed of light
Now it's two months out and it's two months back when you're pushing the speed of light
Twenty years on your homeworld's track, pushing the speed of light
And your friends are gone and your lovers too
And there's damn-all left that you can do
And you try to lie, but you know it's true, pushing the speed of light
Pushing the speed of light
So you sign back on for another run of pushing the speed of light
And you swear to God that your pushing's done, pushing the speed of light
But that one run turns into four or five
And your heart beats time to the humming drive
And there's nothing left keeps you alive, but pushing the speed of light
Pushing the speed of light
Now you've spread your seed with the star drive's flame by pushing the speed of light
Left sons behind you to carry your name, pushing the speed of light
And you watch them age, and you watch them die,
As you race the light-wind across the sky
And the gods are silent when you ask them, Why? Pushing the speed of light
Pushing the speed of light
Now, the speed of c is a wall, they say, when you're pushing the speed of light
That cuts you off from yesterday, pushing the speed of light
But you know someday you're gonna win that race
And fly back the years to your starting space
And you'll stay awhile 'fore you're back in space, pushing the speed of light
Pushing the speed of light
And you've left behind you the world of men
With no way in Hell to go home again
When you're pushing the speed of light
Pushing the speed of light
