B I O G R A P H Y

Flicker is born far away from bustling cities and busy streets. From young age on, she livesin a big house with an ever bigger garden. fruit trees line her parents’ property, and right behind a small river, the woods begin. Flicker spends most of her summer weekends camping in the fields with her best friends, roasting marshmallows over the campfire and swimming in the crystal clear river.

When she finishes school, however, Flicker makes a difficult choice. She leaves her home, family and friends behind and moves out of state to the university in a large city. Her dream is to become an ecologist, an expert for beetles and insects. But as soon as she arrives at the train station, Flicker is overwhelmed. Never before has she seen so many people, so much bustle. Immediately, Flicker feels lost and lonely. Even living in the dorms does not help her, too scary and strange is the sheer number of people sharing the living space.

B I O G R A P H Y

It is pure coincidence that one day, Ahmed walks into the café Flicker is working in. The other girl seems shy, anxious, lost… and Flicker feels a connection. Happily she notices Ahmed returning whenever she has free time. The two of them start talking and suddenly, this foreign place does not feel so scary and big anymore. It is almost like the little café is the only place in the entire world.

Ahmed introduces Flicker to her hometown, to her friends and mothers. With someone to rely on, Flicker manages to adjust to the unknown environment. When she notices that she fell for Ahmed, her first reaction however is fear… fear of losing this precious friendship they share. But when Flicker gathers her courage, she finds her feelings returned.

B I O G R A P H Y

Wherever Flicker goes, she carries her notebook. It is filled with sketches and orderly notes, and whenever she sees a bug she has not seen before, she will stop and draw it to research it later. Sometimes, she scribbles poetry on empty pages that she pulled from the book, sappy rhymes that she would never show anyone, least of all Ahmed. Instead, she makes cakes for her girlfriend to surprise her with when they study together. After all, sweets and a sweetheart is all one needs to make it through a stressful week of exams. That, and coffee.
