Story From the deepest part of the coastline shared between the Sea of A Thousand Currents and the Sunbeam Ruins, a mysterious egg lay in the sand. It looked like a water egg - but it also glowed with a soft light that seemed to come only from within, and caught the eye of many passing fish. A hunting party of maren, wondering why so many fish were gathered in such a deep trench, soon followed. Despite the general animosity towards dragonkind fostered among the tribe, the egg felt beautiful and special, somehow. No parents were around to take care of it, and so the party abandoned their hunt, feeling an impossibly human sympathy towards the egg that looked about to hatch. |
So his name was first written in the sea-tongue in a maren nursery.
For the first few days to weeks, the dragon-child was charming and fun. He could give the other children rides in between his spines, and his scales seemed to shine from within - strange and beautiful. But guardian dragons grew quickly. The marens could not feed or house the child for long. The leaders spoke of how he was far more a risk than a help, even if he could catch twice the fish as they could with their spears.
And to the sorrow of some and the relief of others, he was turned out, his soft-glowing scales his only companion as he roamed the sea's depths.
Eventually, he surfaced on the sunny and warm beaches of the Sunbeam Ruins. He'd never seen the land before, and the sand made his paws ache. But there were dragons that looked like him here! A delighted hatchling was tugging on their parent's fin, begging for something called...a snowcone. His first dragon words sounded sweet on his ears, and so he decided - he'd be Snowcone here, on land. And he'd find his own way through the world, by land, or by sea.
