Biography

Tryggvi
Advance Scout
Chaotic Neutral

PkKAmaj.png
You'd think that a huge pink fortress wouldn't be hard to find, but there's always travellers in the area who struggle to find the only major clan between Arcane and Ice. To be fair, the southern islands have never been well mapped, and most of them look pretty similar from above. Thus the scouts of the clan guard, in addition to searching for enemies and other danger, are tasked with finding dragons weathering in the shelters the clan maintains on those islands and guiding them back to the clan's main lair. Tryggvi is the first pick for such scouting operations, mostly because he's by far the worst fighter in the Guard.

Not that Tryggvi doesn't try. And to his credit, he looks pretty scary when his eyes are glowing with shadow magic. Unfortunately, the only magic he knows that would be useful in a combat situation is magic for escaping said combat situation. Not that escaping under a cloud of magical darkness isn't useful. Tryggvi can even spread the ability to see in such a shroud to allies! (Though the magical glow in his eyes from channelling that ability can sometimes give everyone away.) It's just that the Guard usually fights to win, not to run away. But as long as Kokoro promises to take Tryggvi on any mission where the goal is to get in and out without being detected, he's only mildly incensed about the whole situation. And Kokoro can sense that's pretty much Tryggvi's default state, so everything is fine as far as he is concerned.

What Tryggvi is particularly skilled at is the natural skydancer ability to sense emotions. He doesn't quite have telepathy, but he can identify not only the specific mood and intent of another dragon, but the exact form of any spell cast cast nearby without any effort. It's basically impossible to trick or deceive Tryggvi, even with the aid of magic. Thus, not only is it Tryggvi's job to escort visitors to the clan, but it's also to determine whether they're friend or foe long before they ever reach the lair. Friends get to arrive at their destination. Foes get led in circles until they decide they'd rather freeze to death than deal with Tryggvi's temper for any longer.

Unfortunately, the one thing Tryggvi can't sense is the reason for someone's emotions. And, as he's more than a little self-conscious about himself due to his highly acclaimed status as the Guard's punching bag, he thinks everyone's feelings are directed to him. Far too many travellers are first greeted by a skydancer who's quick to take offence at their very thoughts and is rather fond of petty vengeance to boot. Not that Tryggvi would ever seriously harm someone. (He wouldn't be able to even if he tried.) However, he's not against lying to their faces. They can't sense his intentions, after all. He's personally fond of making up strange rituals that he'll claim visitors to the clan are expected to perform. Half the clan would like him to stop doing that, while the other half is quite entertained by visitors being tricked into licking rocks, performing odd dances, or covering themselves in kelp before arriving.

Not everyone falls for it, but Tryggvi is truly superb at flying away from people who don't like him. Technically, being hunted down by a few angry tundra still counts as leading them to the clan, so Kokoro doesn't discipline him for his antics. His victims do more than a sufficient job of that, anyways.

As she's the one who maintains the island shelters, Scáthach is responsible for dispatching Tryggvi on his scouting missions. She claims that she's merely good at guessing where dragons will be, but it's obvious to him that she's lying and is using magic to detect them. It's obvious. It's so painfully obvious. Why does nobody in the clan ever bother to question her? Tryggvi is infuriated by it. One of these days he'll force her to admit she's the most powerful nature mage in the clan. And then he'll... get torn apart by animated ivy? Okay, maybe he hasn't thought this through quite yet.

Tryggvi is one of the dragons in the clan who most often goes to Brizo's shrine to seek spiritual aid from the Eleven. Ostensibly, he seeks to become stronger. However, it may instead simply be because when he's in quiet meditation he doesn't have to be around dragons who are always loudly thinking about him. Well, except for the time he claimed the Shadowbinder statue in the shrine was laughing at him and tried to smash it. Even Brizo agreed the statue was laughing at him after he failed to do any damage.

He's just a little bit vain about his looks, and had his armour specially fitted by Galakonur. None of that armour has the slightest chance of catching on his feathers, and even the wingplates are designed and enchanted not to obstruct his flight. The armour is functional despite its fanciness too, not that Tryggvi ever sticks around long enough to get hit.

Caetano
Village Hero
Chaotic Good

PkKAmaj.png
The northernmost parts of the Snowsquall Tundra mark where Clan _______'s influence ends. Even if they only officially control some islands on the arcane half of the island chain, the clan guard watch over the entire archipelago, protecting the trade ships that sail between the two flights. But once those trade routes reach the mainland, what happens to them is the problem of some other clan.

Or if they're paying, it can be Caetano's. His home village is nearby one of the ice flight's major northern ports, and if he's around he can be found on the docks, looking for work as a caravan guard. Some might prefer a massive gaoler as a protector, but the help Caetano can provide should not be underestimated. He knows exactly which routes through the tundra can be traversed quickly and safely, and which have been recently buried under avalanches or flooded out when some of the snow melted under the summer sun. And unlike a draconic guide, Caetano can negotiate rest and resupply at any of the beastclan settlements on one of his routes south. Any night not spent camping outside in the ice and cold is a good night. You shouldn't underestimate the skill behind every swing of his handaxe, either. He's the hero of his home village for a reason.

And that reason happened late at night, during one of Tryggvi's scouting missions. He'd flown much too far south to make it back to shelter before nightfall, so instead he chose to go even father south, and find somewhere to rest on the mainland. While trying to remember where the dragon city was, Tryggvi sensed something. Anger. Bubbling, irrational rage at every last living thing. The usual mental state of a coarsefur yeti. Rest at the port didn't matter any more. Instead, Tryggvi rushed to the lights of a small longneck village he could see in the distance.

Landing gracelessly in front of the village chief's house, Tryggvi warned the longnecks to bar their doors and hide. They thanked him profusely, offering food and a house to sleep in overnight in exchange. Graciously, he accepted, until he sensed the worry of a few longnecks muttering about one hunter who hadn't made it back home yet. Tryggvi made an irritated noise under his breath. It looked like he'd be going back out there tonight. Those longneck's worry would be keeping him awake otherwise.

Tryggvi found the hunter taking quick shelter from the icy wind behind a large rock. It took him longer that he'd expected, as he couldn't sense any emotion from the lone longneck. But perhaps that had something to do with the biting wind and the overwhelming anger coming from somewhere far too close for comfort.

He tried to warn the longneck of the oncoming danger, but Caetano waved him away dismissively. Tryggvi tried yelling louder, but Caetano was wasn't answering. He was too busy looking out across the icy ground, repeatedly wiping off the snow that was building up on his goggles.

"I'll never run away in time," he said.

"You have to try!" Tryggvi yelled back.

Caetano hefted his axe in response. He skulked out from behind the rock, walking directly into the icy wind. Without thinking, Tryggvi followed him. It wasn't until he could see the Yeti that Tryggvi's brain turned back on. A muscled beast, tall enough to look a gaoler in the eye. Instinctively, Tryggvi cast his favourite and arguably only spell, blanketing the area in a shroud of darkness. Caetano shouted in surprise, and only then did Tryggvi remember to grant the longneck the ability to see in the darkness as well.

For the first time, Tryggvi could sense emotion from Caetano. Just the tiniest hint of confidence. The longneck leapt back to avoid the yeti's wildly swinging arm, cutting a deep gash into it with his axe in retaliation. Even if the yeti couldn't see, Tryggvi knew one lucky hit would break most of Caetano's bones. He had to help some way. With no better ideas, he tossed a bolt of shadow magic at the yeti's face. It barely flinched, but even that was enough to let Caetano get another hit in. The battle continued as such, Tryggvi's magic allowing Caetano to land blow after blow.

Eventually, the yeti lay dead at their feet. Caetano nodded at the skydancer, before turning to start the long walk back to his village. Tryggvi was almost offended, but he was able to sense genuine gratitude from the longneck. So instead (after a few tries), he started up a conversation.

The two were hailed as heroes on their return, and both even more so after Tryggvi insisted tat Caetano had done most of the real work. Tryggvi left the village having made a new ally for Clan _______ and a new friend for himself, who he makes sure to visit every few months. It's been a lot of effort, but he now he can actually read Caetano's emotions more often than not.

Tryggvi does not appreciate some of his fellow guard members joking about how taking out this yeti is the only thing he's ever accomplished.
