Samson is Ilona’s favourite, the golden boy of the Spirit Court. He has risen high from his beginnings as a pickpocket, and now he has more gold adorning his arms than he ever dreamed of stealing in a year. Ilona drapes him in golden silks, and the bangles at his wrists and the bells at his feet ring softly as he walks. The court doesn’t dare touch him for fear of Ilona’s wrath, but they do trust him. He has a gentle face, and is bashful whenever he is complimented; it is what keeps them from realising how powerful he is. Samson loves the court and the games they play, and plays them so well that the court doesn’t even suspect him to be a player. It is the reason that he has no problems collecting the secrets of the court, all of which are directly whispered into Ilona’s ear.

Samson does not seek status or power for himself; he wants status and power for them. He has no interest in directly ruling, and is much more interested in getting Ilona onto the throne. He will do whatever it takes to make her Queen, but the court doesn’t see that. The court only sees the Sun Queen and her golden boy. They cannot see the blood that they’ve lined the path to divinity with.
