Biography
A lovely young lass who shares Skarlette’s birthday! She was part of a breeding project with my Merari G4 from the Naomi lineage, but with a twist! Instead of focusing on shade lore, I aimed to bring a little more sci-fi into the mix. I called it the Kuiper Belt Project, because their babies were named after objects found in the belt (which includes planetoids like Pluto and its satellites) as they left my lair. Any renaming happened once they were in their new home.
This gal is named after the NASA space probe New Horizons, part of their New Frontiers Programme to explore deep space. They were nested in Nature, Light, Arcane, Plague, Earth and Lightning eventually when they were gened and ready. Since interest has died down, they and any offspring I keep are now retired to the Hibernal Den in their own tab :3

New Horizons is an interplanetary space probe that was launched as a part of NASA's New Frontiers program. Engineered by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), with a team led by S. Alan Stern, the spacecraft was launched in 2006 with the primary mission to perform a flyby study of the Pluto system in 2015, and a secondary mission to fly by and study one or more other Kuiper belt objects (KBOs) in the decade to follow, which became a mission to 486958 Arrokoth. It is the fifth space probe to achieve the escape velocity needed to leave the Solar System. |
The goal of the mission is to understand the formation of the Plutonian system, the Kuiper belt, and the transformation of the early Solar System. The spacecraft collected data on the atmospheres, surfaces, interiors, and environments of Pluto and its moons. It will also study other objects in the Kuiper belt. "By way of comparison, New Horizons gathered 5,000 times as much data at Pluto as Mariner did at the Red Planet." Some of the questions the mission attempts to answer are: What is Pluto's atmosphere made of and how does it behave? What does its surface look like? Are there large geological structures? How do solar wind particles interact with Pluto's atmosphere?
Specifically, the mission's science objectives are to:
- Map the surface composition of Pluto and Charon
- Characterize the geology and morphology of Pluto and Charon
- Characterize the neutral atmosphere of Pluto and its escape rate
- Search for an atmosphere around Charon
- Map surface temperatures on Pluto and Charon
- Search for rings and additional satellites around Pluto
- Conduct similar investigations of one or more Kuiper belt objects.
