HAUMIAROA
SEER // ORACLE // ELDER ____________________________ desc. as "the keeper of the pearls". + gentle mannered + unconcerned how others see her + knows more than she should |
Haumiaroa was blown into the Water territories shortly after her hatching. As a Wind dragon, the instinct to fly was strong- and in attempting to do so before being fully capable has its consequences. However, she wasn't completely defenseless. Haumiaroa has the gift of the sight- the ability to predict and glimpse the future. This is what allowed her to survive long enough before landing in the tribe's center; literally, and figuratively.
Very quickly, Haumiaroa found her place in the tribe after foreseeing a great storm that had the potential to annihilate the tribe's territories. With the warning, the tribe was able to safely retreat into the lairs built deepest in the labyrinth that they reside in and wait out the destruction above. Following this event, Haumiaroa was granted a permanent place in the tribe, even going so far as to be titled an honorary elder. Nowadays, she can often be found in the deeper caverns of her own personal lair, tending to her collection of pearls with the company of her psywurm. While she does not exhibit any of the typical coloring of a wind dragon, she does not seem to care. Rather, she has embraced the water dragon she appears to be and has not looked back since. _____ |

She is soft as she tends to her gardens of pearls. All of them, entrusted to her by those too old to care for them or by other curious methods, gleam faintly in the dark. If she were any other member of the tribe, she might have been put to death for the number of pearls she tended.
She knows the names of each and every one of the former carriers of the pearls, and it weighs upon her heart heavily. She is not quite the youngling she once was, always travelling, always sticking her snout where it did not belong. No, her wandering days have long since passed since she had discovered her gift. Which of the gods above had sent her this gift, she did not know, but it had led her into the path of a young drake whose kind hailed from the waters of the world. Rydian had been young, inexperienced, and she had little confidence in her abilities. When she had left to go wandering, leaving the tribe in the claws of the bold Ukhai, she had not protested. She had glimpsed something to come. A change for their clan-mother. One that she would not speak of until Rydian finally returned. It would be soon, she mused, pausing by a small pearl that had belonged to a hatchling barely past its first season. Many years had passed since Rydian had left, and there was some part of her that almost wished she had accompanied her friend. But, she had not. There were too many things here in the tribe that needed to be done, too many things that fell under her care, and while some part of her longed to be beneath the skies of the plains with her kin, she felt no real urge to go. What would Ysaly do if she left, she wondered with no small amount of amused exasperation. The sky-drake would be completely lost without her guidance, not that he truly needed her any more. He was, after all, a full grown creature now, with his own marks and duties. The small, defenseless hatchling she had come to call her own kin was off in memory but little else. She knew that if they were to compare their size, his girth would surely outmatch hers. |
