Checkers

"Greetings, my fellow Banescale! Care to play a game with me?"
"Hm?" As she wandered the Tangled Wood by herself, Sharphook encounters another Banescale. Donning black and white stripes with dark red intersecting, he flew upside-down in front of her before flipping over to land. "Well, sure. What game, though?"
"Why, none other than a game of checkers!" With a spreading of his wings, shadow magic congealed to form a checkerboard and some pieces. "No worries if you don't know how to play- I can explain the rules for you before we start."
Though confounded, she took a seat before the board, summoning pieces of her own. "If you really don't mind, I could use an explanation..."
...
"Ah..." Staring at the board after hours of playing, the striped Banescale had a look of surprise. "Looks like you've won. Oh, this only happens so often..." He looked up with a grin. "Good game, my friend!"
Sharphook seemed to be just as surprised, but she shook it off as she stood. "Yeah, good game..! It's getting kind of late, though. I should probably be headed back home."
"Is it really? Well... I hope we can meet again!"
"...Actually... my clan has some extra space. It's a ways away, but you can come stay there if you'd like- I'm sure the folks there would be glad to play with you."
The surprise intensified as he stood. "R-really? Oh, that'd be splendid! If that's the case..." He held out his wing. "I should introduce myself, shouldn't I? Name's Checkers!"
She smiled a bit, holding out hers in a sort of high-five. "Mine's Sharphook. Pleasure to meet you, Checkers."

This roaming Banescale spends his days in bliss, always searching for someone to play some board games. True to his name and checkerboard-like hide, he prefers playing checkers (and is pretty darn good at it)- but if a partner wants to play something else, he's always ready to conjure up some magic pieces and boards. Checkers is hard to best in board games, but is never haughty about his victories, wearing a grin as he says "Good game, good game!" and flies off humming some song. Should he be beat, though, it's said he shows a more reserved side...
While not the most magically adept, he knows enough to get by, and has shown great interest in the arts beyond his meager boardgame summoning. Aside from his natural element, he seems interested in wind magic, and is studying this at Penumbra.

This raptor, affectionately named Chess, began following Checkers around after a trip to Wind flight territory. It shares his upbeat energy- and occasionally splits it to make both easier for Paradisium to manage.
