Biography

He was not like the others.

No, he was not.

And that was alright to him.

Born into Sornieth as a Wildclaw doused in blue and blue markings along his body, the male often found himself drawn to the ocean. He would walk from the dynamic environment of the land of the Stormcatcher and each time he spotted the water, it called out to him, and it was not just because he noticed that the large body of water had the same tint of color like him. No.

The water simply felt like his home. The sounds of the waves crashing onto the sands, the small howling of the wind, the crabs that he glimpsed from the corner of his eyes, the harsh sunlight battering down on his frame — it all made him feel comfortable. That’s not to say that he felt uncomfortable with his other clanmates back inland.

Sometimes, though, he felt like he had a bigger purpose — a calling.

Perhaps it was because of this lingering and creeping feeling that plagued him during the nights, that pushed him to explore for himself, why that feeling continued to hover in his mind and entwine with his instincts. In the dim moonlight of a faithful weekend, he gazes down into the clear liquid. He stares at his reflection, and a small frown pops onto his expression; it’s gone faster than he can remember. It didn’t feel like him, yet in all its emotions, it felt exactly like him. He let out a small growl, a crab scuttling away at the sudden noise. He looked down at the grown, taking his first steps into the water. He flinched as the coldness washes over his body. He exhaled deeply and strode forward once more.

Each step felt like he was getting closer to his demise, yet it felt so right.

He let the water overtakes. His body relaxes; allowing the water to carry him into the unknown depths. He took an instinctual breath while facing the music, but found himself surprised — he was not drowning. He could breath. But he snapped out his stupor when he spotted the disturbance in the normally calm water. He spotted the creatures circling around him. He clenched up his body and prepared himself for a fight.

His mind went blank as he brawled the creatures of the depths. Their glowing red eyes glared at him at every motion, but he ignored it. His body moved by itself; the ingrained instincts natural to Wildclaws kicked in, and his motions became more minimalistic and aggressive. His snout twitched at the scent of blood. His instincts went into overdrive when from the darkness came another recognizable figure. It was another dragon, swimming alongside the injured creatures he fought. The dragon stared at him piercingly before nodding in what seemed to be approval. \

“You are a worthy dragon to take the title of King,” they spoke. “Stalker is your name, correct?”

The dragon nodded, giving them a wary glance in the meanwhile. “How do you know that?”

The other tilted their head curiously. “Have you not heard the calling of the ocean? The oceans know all, Stalker.”

He knows exactly what the unknown figure is talking about, and in that split second, it’s as if a weight on their heart has suddenly been lifted. This is what they were feeling. This is what they were called to do, to be.

“I’ll do my best,” he stated.

The other dragon gave him a wolfish grin. “I would expect no less from you, Stalker. Now that we will have to get acquainted as I’m your guard, my name is—”

”Moonshine. Are you sure I’m cut out for this?”

“Yes, sir. Listen to me, Stalker. You’ve been preparing for this for multiple months now. The citizens adore you and you have a clear and wise mind and are good at fighting, but know when to put your claw down. There is no one better than you,” the dragon snipped.

Stalker looks down at the clams decorating his desk, and its gleaming pearls. He looks at the reflection staring back at him; it taunts him and his insecurities and his head feathers droop. Moonshine sighs and consoles him with the pats of his tail.

“Stalker. Let’s go. It’s no time to get coldclaw. Besides, we only need to be there for the crowning, and you are able to leave immediately.”

The Wildclaw gets up from his spot and nods. He trails behind the older dragon and thinks upon the life he left behind only so long ago. He sighs and wishes that he could have said goodbye to a select few dragons that he was on good terms with. It’s too late for that, though… He walks through the halls of the castle, gazing upon the large portraits of past Kings of the Underwater City of Tempegia. He puts on a stoic and confident face as he walks past the soldiers and other workers of the Castle. He stops at the large double doors separating him from the citizens. He takes a deep breath, looks at Moonshine, and then back in front.

He is ready to accept his fate, his destiny, his role as King.

He walks out into the world and is greeted by figures of all shapes and sizes. Their joyous and active screams ring in his ears.

He smiles.
