Based on this lovely idiot (art by me!)

There’s dragons enjoying their job, dragons being proud of their profession while working under someone, and then there’s Dustin, who has an unofficial job and an unofficial boss, but treats both as if everyone has accepted it as official. While not officially a member of the clan, Dustin seems to have taken it upon himself to patrol and guard the clan’s territory and the main lair. The gray pearlcatcher seemingly came out of nowhere, and no-one has seen him before he started popping up in random places, acting as if he’s always been there.

Dustin is maybe not the brightest, and can be extremely blunt and loud, but he’s not a bad guy, and slowly but surely everyone just accepted this strange dragon had invaded their clan and made it his home. He worked hard and Totemclan could always benefit from one more warrior within their ranks, so it really wasn’t an issue. When asked why Dustin chose to appear in Totemclan and why it seemed so obvious for him to work here, the pearlcatcher shrugged and said something along the lines of being saved by someone in the clan, and that ‘in this economy’ that meant pledging your loyalty to your savior and being prepared to go trough hell for them.

No-one really knows where the pearlcatcher came from, but it’s not that hard to see that it wasn’t a very safe place. Dustin is strong- more so than the average dragon- and yet it’s obvious that he himself had a hard time living where he used to- proven by his scars and his bone-y appearance when he first came to Totemclan. It was clear to many he never really had the luxury about not having to worry about food, and his amazement at the vault’s storage of food is both endearing and sad. Even if a famine were to hit, Totemclan would have the resources to keep going as usual due to the hard work of the hunters, gatherers and even the alchemists (who would be able to transmute items into edible goods for the clan if needed). Totemclan is safe and going trough a golden age- rebuilding after a great disaster tore it apart.

And Dustin is actively working to make sure the clan stays safe, frequently asking Iophiel what he should do to effectively spend his hours, jokingly refering to the coatl as ‘boss’ or ‘bossman’.

And if the pearlcatcher looks at Zophiel with a little more admiration than others, no one has to know, right?

Dustin wears his eye cover because his eyes have a very soft shape, and as an awesome intimidating guard he can't have others think he looks 'cute' because of them- it would ruin his entire image!
