Aurum

As long as Aurum can remember he has shied away from the light, and been drawn to the darkness. Despite his element being light and his gilded appearance, his mission has been to change his element to shadow—at all costs. He's spent eons studying elements and he thinks he's close to cracking the barrier between light and shadow. Of course, these experiments of his have gotten out of hand before.

Once, a long time ago, when he was much younger, he had a set of hatchlings who were merely days old. He was experimenting like usual, combining different elements when the elements collided at the wrong angle. The beaker he was holding burst open and something nearly as wicked as the Shade burst forth, devouring the land. Wind and clouds were sucked violently into the swirling vortex and lightning scorched the ground in search of its next victim. The clan rushed to shelter, Leah yelling instructions to keep the hatchlings safe. They hid in the underground bunkers built by the gaolers. Aurum had barely enough time to grab Aurelia and two hatchlings before the storm destroyed their nest and everything in its path. Their neighboring clans were destroyed as well and the residents either were taken away by the storm or disappeared by the magic of the collision of the elements.

Other dragons began to formulate what exactly became of the hatchlings who were swept away by the storm. Some said that the hatchlings were scattered throughout Sornieth, and others said that the hatchlings became part of the storm and continue to destroy Sornieth to this day. No one truly knows what happened, but Aurum has a feeling his hatchlings are still alive, somewhere out there, waiting for the day they will be reunited.

This incident did nothing to stop Aurum from pursuing his goal no matter how many times the rest of the clan implored him to stop. His eyesight was permanently damaged from the experiment, and he has to wear a monocle at all times.
