A man of action, once a course has been laid out before him, he will follow it to the end and woe be upon anyone who tries to stop him – even the youngest may be tainted. And that taint must be purged. No army of rats, no stubborn alchemists, no crumbling châteaux will keep him from his goal, from cleansing the land of this plague. The de Runes might only be children, but god’s wrath is blind and Nicholas – as directed by the archbishop, the mouthpiece of god, the one who knows god's will – Nicholas is the hand that smites the unworthy.
